  • Who: Target, Kraft, Jeep, James Farm and Nestle Purina recalled their respective products this week.
  • Why: These top recalls revolve around product safety and possible risk of harm.
  • Where: The recalls are effective in the United States.

Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced top recalls this week for products that may pose injury to consumers.

Target recalls Cloud Island plush toys

Target issued a recall Dec. 1 via the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for 23,400 of their Cloud Island plush toys. The four-piece plush toy sets include a blue car, a yellow bus, a red tractor and a green truck. The toy sets with item number 030-02-1042 were sold from March through August 2022 in Target stores and at target.com.

The recall was initiated after Target received four reports of the tires detaching from the plush toys. While there have been no injuries reported so far, the detached tires do pose a choking risk for small children. Consumers are encouraged to take the toys away from children immediately.

The recalled toys can be returned to any Target store for a full refund. Consumers may also contact Target for a prepaid return label to return the recalled toys by mail.

The recalled Target Cloud Island toy sets were manufactured in China. The Target recall number for these toys is 23-060.

Kraft ham-and-cheese loaf recalled

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall Dec. 5 on its website for 2,400 pounds of Kraft Heinz Foods Co. ready-to-eat ham and cheese loaf products. The recalled products are 16-ounce rigid vacuum-packed packages containing “Oscar Mayer Ham & Cheese LOAF” with codes from “07 Feb 2023 20:40 7B” through “07 Feb 2023 22:16 7B” on the label.

The ham-and-cheese loaf has possible cross-contamination with underprocessed products due to parts of the product being sliced on the same equipment as product that had been underprocessed; the equipment was not cleaned between runs.

Consumers are encouraged to not consume the recalled ham-and-cheese loaf product and return it to the place of purchase.

Jeep Wrangler 4xe recalled

FCA US has recalled 62,909 2021-2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles as per a recall notice posted Nov. 23 on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.

The 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid electric vehicle engine may shut down unexpectedly, which can cause a loss of power and increase the risk of a crash. The company has reported two crashes and one injury potentially related to the issue so far.

Consumers can take their Jeep vehicles to a dealer that will update the transmission control module software in affected vehicles free of charge.

James Farm frozen raspberries recalled

On Dec. 3, a recall notice was posted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website for 1,260 cases of James Farm frozen raspberries, as the product may be contaminated with hepatitis A.

The recall applies to 1,260 cases of James Farm frozen raspberries in two 5-pound bags per 10-pound carton, with a best-by date of June 14, 2024, UPC Code of 76069501010 and Lot Code CO 22-165.

The recall was initiated after FDA testing indicated the presence of hepatitis A in certain James Farm-branded frozen raspberries.

Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease that results from exposure — including exposure from food — to the hepatitis A virus. It can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a serious illness lasting several months, the FDA said.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should not consume them and should either discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Nestle Purina recalls low-fat dog food

Nestle Purina PetCare Co. has recalled cans of its Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN Gastroenteric Low Fat prescriptions wet dog food in 13.4-ounce cans.

The dog food, which has the UPC (38100 17599), production code (22581159 L4TR6) and the words “Best Before Sept 2024” on the bottom, was mislabeled. The product contains chunks in gravy, while the correct product looks more like a pate consistency.

The affected product was available by prescription only and distributed through veterinary clinics and other retailers with the ability to validate a prescription.
