Target tea kettle recall overview:

  • Who: Target is recalling more than 12,000 Hearth & Hand tea kettles.
  • Why: The paint can chip on the bottom of the kettles, posing a fire hazard.
  • Where: The tea kettles are being recalled nationwide.

Target has recalled about 12,800 Hearth & Hand™ tea kettles due to a fire risk.

The recall was issued Oct. 6 on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website and applies to the brand’s Magnolia Tea Kettles.

“The paint can chip on the bottom of the recalled kettles, posing a fire hazard,” the recall states.

“In addition, the handle can break and/or the spout can leak, posing a risk of burn injuries.”

Target receives 27 incident reports

The recall comes after Target received 27 reports of incidents involving the tea kettles, which included the kettles leaking, wobbling or moving on the stovetop while in use, the handle grip breaking off, and the paint chipping and melting on the bottom of the kettle.

“One consumer reported a fire due to the paint chipping off of the bottom of the kettle. No injuries have been reported,” the recall states.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

The product was sold at Target stores nationwide and www.target.com from July 2021 through Oct. 2021 for about $35.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled tea kettles and return them to any Target store for a full refund or contact Target to receive a prepaid return label to return the tea kettle by mail, the recall states.

Meanwhile, cookies distributed to Target stores nationwide are being recalled because they may contain metal.
