Sundance Spas, Jacuzzi Hot Tubs recall overview:

  • Who: Sundance Spas has recalled more than 23,000 of its hot tubs and spas.
  • Why: The temperature sensor on the tubs and spas can relay incorrect water temperatures, causing burn hazards.
  • Where: The Sundance Spas, Jacuzzi Hot Tub recall is active in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Sundance Spas has recalled more than 23,000 of its hot tubs and spas as the temperature sensor on the tubs and spas can relay incorrect water temperatures, causing burn hazards.

The recall was announced Dec. 15 on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website. It applies to about 23,700 Jacuzzi J-200, J-300, J-400 and J-500 collection hot tubs and Sundance Spas 680, 780, 880 and 980 Series spas sold in the United States.

Additionally, about 5,400 of the recalled products were sold in Canada and about 40 were sold in Mexico, the recall states.

The spas and hot tubs are being recalled because the temperature sensor on the spas and hot tubs can relay incorrect water temperatures and cause the water to be hotter than the set temperature, posing injury in the form of heat stroke, and thermal burn hazards, the company said.

Sundance Spas consumers can access a free repair

The recall comes after Sundance Spas received 185 reports of inaccurate temperature readings, the recall states. No injuries have been reported so far, the company said.

Sundance Spas is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Consumers with the recalled spas and hot tubs should use an accurate external thermometer to confirm the water temperature to be no higher than 104 degrees prior to entering the hot tub to prevent injuries and burns, the recall states.

“Consumers should not enter the recalled hot tubs if the external thermometer temperature reads higher than 104 degrees.”

Consumers should also contact a local authorized dealer for Jacuzzi and Sundance Spas brands to schedule a free repair.

The spas and hot tubs were sold at dealers nationwide from July 2021 through Dec. 2022 for between $6,500 and $30,000.

Meanwhile, in September, the CPSC recalled four brands of pool and spa drain covers as they pose an entrapment threat to swimmers and bathers.
