Summer sausage recall overview:

  • Who: The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a warning about certain summer sausages produced by Paradise Locker Meats.
  • Why: The sausages may be contaminated with plastic.
  • Where: The summer sausage warning is active in the United States.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a warning that certain summer sausages produced by Paradise Locker Meats may be contaminated with plastic.

The warning was issued Nov. 30 on the FSIS website, and applies to two brands of summer sausage that are no longer available for purchase.

The FSIS is concerned that some of the sausages may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the notice says.

Summer sausages found to contain plastic, recall states

The problem was discovered when the firm received a customer complaint reporting clear plastic embedded within multiple packages of summer sausage products.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products, the warning states.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

The recall applies to 1-pound chubs containing “JET HIGH PRAIRIE MEATS SUMMER SAUSAGE” with lot code 220715 represented on the label and 1-pound chubs containing “FANTASMA’S finest SUMMER SAUSAGE” with lot code 220715 represented on the label.

The products were produced on July 13, 2022, and were shipped to retail locations in Kansas and Missouri and additional locations through online sales, the warning states.

Last month, Bob Evans Farms Foods recalled about 7,560 pounds of Italian pork sausage products as they may be contaminated with thin blue rubber.
