- Why: The pickups’ turn signal self-canceling feature can malfunction.
- Where: The Stellantis Ram 1500 recall is active in the United States.
Stellantis is recalling almost 130,000 Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to concerns that the vehicles’ turn signal self-canceling feature can malfunction, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Stellantis recall was published to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website on Oct. 1. It applies to 129,313 model year 2023-2024 Ram 1500 vehicles. Â
According to the recall, the turn signal self-canceling feature may not function properly. Â
“A turn signal which does not self-cancel and remains active after a completed turn may cause surrounding drivers to misunderstand the intent to change vehicle direction, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning,” the Ram 1500 recall says.
The malfunction also means the vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards on lamps and reflective devices.
Free repair offered
Affected drivers will receive a letter from Stellantis after Oct. 29, the automaker says.
The Ram 1500 owners will be asked to take the vehicles to a dealer, who will inspect and replace the steering column control module as necessary, free of charge, the Stellantis recall states.Â
Last month, in another Stellantis recall, the automaker recalled more than 30,000 of its model year 2020-2024 Jeep Gladiator and model year 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles over concerns their instrument panels can fail.Â
The automaker said the instrument panels on the recalled Jeep vehicles could experience a short circuit, causing them to fail and not properly display “critical safety information,” such as the speedometer or warning lights, increasing the risk of a crash.Â
