Russell Stover recall announced for undeclared pecans in Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups

Russell Stover recalled two lots of its Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups as the products were accidentally packaged with pecans.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration website published the recall Feb. 28. It applies to Russell Stover Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups packaged in 2.4 oz. plastic bags with best-before dates of 01MAY23 and 01JUN23 and UPC of 077260096937.

According to the notice, Russel Stover recalled the peanut butter cups after consumers contacted the company regarding the wrong product inside packaging for Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups. 

“The recalled Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups may contain Sugar Free Pecan Delights,” the Russell Stover recall states. “Pecans are not declared on the label. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pecans run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”

Russell Stover has received no reports of any illness or allergic reactions related to the issue to date, it says. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Recalled Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups distributed nationwide, Russell Stover recall says

Russell Stover distributed the recalled Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups nationwide to wholesale and retail stores, the notice states.

The company says the recall resulted from an error by the firm’s third-party co-packing company, resulting in individually wrapped Sugar Free Pecan Delight products placed in the outer packaging for Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups. 

Consumers who may have purchased the product may contact Russell Stover Chocolates directly for a voucher or replacement product. 

In related news, last year, Russell Stover was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging it fails to make its website fully accessible to legally blind and visually impaired individuals.
