Kawasho Foods USA announced a voluntary recall for a single lot of its GEISHA Medium Shrimp, 4 oz. can product over concerns it is potentially contaminated with the bacteria clostridium botulinum.

Kawasho initiated the recall after discovering that the cans holding the GEISHA Medium Shrimp product swelled, leaked or burst, according to a recall published Feb. 26 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Kawasho distributed the recalled Geisha Medium Shrimp product to retail stores, including Walmart, Associated Food Stores, Stater Bros Markets, Safeway and Albertsons, in California, Utah, Arizona and Colorado.

The company advises consumers to stop using the recalled Geisha Medium Shrimp product regardless of whether or not it looks or smells spoiled, according to the canned shrimp recall notice.

The recalled Geisha Medium Shrimp product comes in a 4-ounce metal can and has a UPC code of 071140003909, lot code LGC12W12E22 and a best-by date of May 12, 2026, according to the recall.

Kawasho has not received any reports of illness connected to canned shrimp recall

As of Feb. 26, Kawasho says it has not received any reports of illnesses or adverse consequences connected to the recall.

The company advises consumers who own the recalled Geisha Medium Shrimp product to return it to its original place of purchase to receive a full refund.

Individuals who have more questions about the recall can contact Kawasho directly by phone at (212) 841-7400 or by email

In a similar recall, earlier this month, Conagra Brands announced it recalled more than 1,200 tons of its canned meat and poultry products over concerns a packaging defect may have caused a contamination
