Toyota Tundra recall overview:ย

  • Who: Toyota recalled 21,781 of its model year 2023 Toyota Tundra and Toyota Tundra Hybrid vehicles.ย
  • Why: Toyota initiated the recall over concerns the spray-on bed liner accessoryโ€™s weight was incorrectly calculated.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide.ย

Toyota initiated a recall for 21,781 of its model year 2023 Toyota Tundra and Toyota Tundra Hybrid vehicles over concerns they were sold with incorrect load carrying capacity modification labels.ย

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted the recall earlier this month, saying the spray-on bed liner accessoryโ€™s weight was incorrectly calculated.ย

โ€œDue to system errors, the weight of the accessory was incorrectly specified, causing the vehicles receiving the label to indicate an added weight less than the actual total weight of accessories installed,โ€ the Toyota recall states.

The automaker says it also included vehicles in the recall that are not required to add a load carrying capacity modification label โ€œout of an abundance of caution in the event that others may have added weight after Toyota sold the vehicles.โ€ย

Toyota to replace load carrying capacity modification labels on recalled Tundra, Tundra Hybrid vehicles

Toyota will notify all known owners of the recalled vehicles to return their vehicles to a Toyota dealer, where they will receive an updated load carrying capacity modification label, according to the Toyota recall.ย

Because owner notification letters will be sent out within the active period of the Toyota New Vehicle Limited Warranty, all vehicle owners impacted by the recall will receive a repair at no cost, Toyota says. It notified distributors and dealers Sept. 13, and will notify owners about the recall by Nov. 12.ย

In other news involving Toyota, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Toyota earlier this month, arguing the automaker sold model year 2022-2023 Toyota Tundra vehicles allegedly equipped with defective fuel lines that posed a fire risk.ย
