Target has recalled 174,300 Letters to Santa Mailboxes after seven consumers reported getting lacerations from the mail slot opening, three of which required medical attention.

In a recall notice, the company says the mail slot on the Bullseye’s Playground Metal Mailbox can be sharp, posing a laceration hazard. Target urged consumers to immediately stop using the recalled mailbox and return it to any Target store for a full refund in the form of a gift card.

The recalled mailboxes were sold in red or white and with the words “Letters to Santa” printed on the front in white or black lettering. The mailboxes measure about 7 inches in length, 3 inches in width and 10 inches in height.

The two recalled products are the Letters to Santa Metal Mailbox – Red or White, item number 234-17-8556; and Letters to Santa Metal Mailboxes – Red & White (2 Count), item number 234-20-9275.

The product item number is printed on the white sticker located on the bottom of the mailbox sold in stores and on the inner packaging of the two-count mailboxes sold online.

The mailboxes were sold at Target stores nationwide and on the company’s website from October 2021 through November 2021 for $5 (single mailbox) and $10 (two-count mailboxes).

Although this recall has not resulted in any legal action to date, Target is facing a separate class action over allegations the company, along with sunscreen-maker Fruit of the Earth, falsely label Up & Up brand sunscreens as “reef-conscious” when the ingredients actually kill reefs.

The class action lawsuit was filed in October in a California federal court alleging violations of California consumer protection laws and breach of warranty.
