Kroger issued a recall for one production run of 16-ounce bags of Kroger Collard Greens from Baker Farms due to listeria.
The bags have a UPC code of 11110-18171 with a best-by date of Oct. 16, 2023, and production code 110093-387, the recall states. Baker Farms sold the collard greens at Kroger retail locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. The recall also affects parts of Illinois, Indiana and Missouri.
Tennessee Department of Agriculture testing found listeria in the collard greens, according to the recall notice.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause infections in young children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems and can be serious and sometimes fatal, the Kroger recall says.
Healthy individuals can also experience symptoms, including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Dispose of packages or return to store for refund, Kroger collard greens recall says
Baker Farms says it has not received reports of illness related to the recall. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
The recalled packages have been removed from store shelves, and customers with the bags at home should dispose of them or return them to a Kroger store for a full refund, the recall notice states.
Consumers can contact Kroger from 8 a.m. to midnight ET Monday to Friday and from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 800-632-6900.
Twin City Foods also announced a listeria-related recall in late August for a range of Food Lion and Kroger frozen corn and mixed vegetables as the products were possibly contaminated with the bacteria.
