Harbor Freight Tools is recalling 478,800 of its Pittsburgh Automotive-branded pneumatic roller seats due to an issue with the welding in the connection from the seat to the seat post that can cause breakage, posing a fall hazard.
In a recall notice, Harbor Freight Tools says it has received 96 reports of the seat weld breaking, including 10 reports of minor injuries, such as bruises, from users falling from the seat.
The swivel seats are red with a 15- to 20-inch pneumatic lift range and have a black storage tray located above the wheels, the recall notice says.
Product Registration Number CA-44417 can be found on a white label located on the bottom of the seat’s storage tray. Seats with item number 61896 and UPC 792363618960, item number 46319 and UPC 193175340764 and item number 46319 and UPC 792363634564 are included in the recall. The item number is printed on a label on the front of the storage tray and the UPC is printed on a label on the underside.
Harbor Freight Tools is asking consumers to immediately stop using the recalled seats and return them to the nearest Harbor Freight Tools store for a free replacement or full refund in the form of a gift card.
Consumers unable to return the seat to one of the company’s stores can contact Harbor Freight Tools to request a prepaid return shipping label for a replacement or a refund. Harbor Freight Tools says it is contacting all known purchasers directly.
Seats Sold At Harbor Freight Tools Stores Nationwide And Online
The roller seats were sold at Harbor Freight Tools stores nationwide and online from July 2014 through September 2021 for $30.
In July 2021, Harbor Freight Tools had to recall 350,000 of its One Stop Garden 15,000 and 30,000 BTU tank top propane heaters due to burn hazards. In the recall notice, posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the company said that in windy weather, the flame of the propane heater can be blown towards the back of the unit, which can melt the “tip switch” safety shut off feature. This poses a risk that the heater will not turn off if it tips over and poses a burn hazard to consumers.
Although neither that recall nor the current roller chair recall have resulted in legal action to date, Harbor Freight Tools did face a class action lawsuit alleging that it sold defective chainsaws. The lawsuit led to a settlement in 2021 where consumers who purchased certain chainsaws from Harbor Freight were eligible to receive replacement products or up to $50 in cash or gift cards.
