Rizo-López Foods is recalling cheese, yogurt and sour cream due to potential listeria contamination.

The dairy recall includes products sold under the brand names Tio Francisco, Don Francisco, Rizo Bros, Rio Grande, Food City, El Huache, La Ordena, San Carlos, Campesino, Santa Maria, Dos Ranchitos, Casa Cardenas and 365 Whole Foods Market.

The dairy products were distributed nationwide and sold at retail deli counters that include El Super, Cardenas Market, Northgate Gonzalez, Superior Grocers, El Rancho, Vallarta, Food City, La Michoacana and Numero Uno Markets, the recall says.

Listeria can lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and those with weakened immune systems, according to the recall. Healthy individuals are more likely to have short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Listeria can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women, the recall says.

Dairy recall products are potential source of nationwide listeria breakout

The recalled Rizo-López Foods dairy products may be a potential source of illness in a nationwide listeria breakout, according to the Centers for Disease Control and U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Rizo-López is asking consumers to check refrigerators and freezers for the listed dairy recall products and to dispose of them. The company can be reached at 1-833-296-2233.

FDA regulators released a proposal last year saying the word “milk” should not only apply to cow milk, heralding a tentative win for producers of soy, oat and almond milks.

Please add me to this. There are so many recalls and I have thrown away a lot of food. I often wondered if we would ever be reimbursed for food I have discarded due to recalls.
