Best Buy Insignia Air Fryer Overheat Recall Overview:

  • Who: Best Buy is recalling around 635,000 of its Insignia Air Fryers and Air Fryer Ovens.
  • Why: The recall was initiated over concerns the air fryer devices can overheat and become a fire and burn hazard.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide.

Best Buy has issued a recall for around 635,000 of its Insignia Air Fryers and Air Fryer Ovens over concerns they can overheat and pose a fire and burn hazard.

The recall includes Insignia Digital Air Fryers, Insignia Analog Air Fryer and Insignia Digital Air Fryer Ovens that were sold by Best Buy, according to a recall notice posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Apr. 21.

The recalled air fryers have model numbers NS-AF32DBK9, NS-AF32MBK9, NS-AF50MBK9, NS-AF53DSS0, NS-AF53MSS0, NS-AF55DBK9, NS-AFO6DBK1 and NS-AFO6DSS1, according to the recall.

The model number and brand name INSIGNIA can be found on the underside of the air fryers. They also contain the name INSIGNIA on either the front or top of the unit.

Best Buy is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled air fryer products, which have plastic or plastic and stainless steel bodies that come in black and stainless steel finishes, and to return them to Best Buy to receive a store credit.

Best Buy To Contact Known Purchasers Directly To Prep Refund, According To Recall

Consumers will not need to have a receipt to receive a $50 store credit but can receive a larger credit if their receipt shows a higher amount, according to the recall.

Best Buy said it will be contacting all known purchasers directly to “arrange returns and providing pre-paid shipping boxes and labels and return instructions.”

The recalled air fryer products were sold nationwide and online at www.bestbuy.com, www.google.com and www.eBay.com from November 2018 to February 2022 for between $50 and $150, according to the recall.

Best Buy says it has received 68 reports in the United States and 36 reports from Canada of instances where the air fryer devices have caught fire, burned or melted, leading to seven reports of “minor property damage” and two injuries.

A class action lawsuit was filed against air fryer manufacturer TriStar last year by consumers claiming the company sold “dangerously defective” air fryers that can catch on fire.

I bought one of these and tried to do what they wanted, Got a box from them, Sent it back to them, they verified they had received it and it was part of it’s recall. That’s been 5 months ago with NO help at all from best buy on actually getting my refund. Now they sent me a reply after all this time saying “not part of our recalled products”. Please by all means, add me to your list of people wanting to hold someone accountable.
