Safety goggles sold with Exploding Kittens’ Throw Throw Burrito Extreme Going Pro Edition Dodgeball Card Game sets have been recalled due to concerns about the glass lenses shattering.
According to a recall notice issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, safety goggles sold with the dodgeball card game set pose a risk of laceration. The safety goggles were manufactured with glass lenses that can shatter, notes the CPSC.
“This recall involves safety goggles sold with the prototype Throw Throw Burrito Extreme Going Pro Edition Dodgeball Card Outdoor Game sets. The goggles were sold with the game sets in a neon orange nylon drawstring backpack with the name of the game in black lettering,” notes the company’s website.
Approximately 10,500 dodgeball safety goggles were sold in Throw Throw Burrito Extreme game sets in the United States, with another 735 goggles sold in Canada. Consumers who contact Exploding Kittens can receive a replacement pair.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Extreme Edition goggles and use scissors to cut the goggles down the flexible plastic center (above the nose bridge) and through the elastic strap,” states the recall notice with instructions to Canadian consumers. “Exploding Kittens will replace the goggles with new safety-tested goggles upon receipt of an email with consumers’ mailing address and an image proving goggles have been destroyed. Exploding Kittens is contacting all known purchasers directly.”
Two reports of the Exploding Kitten dodgeball safety goggles cracking were submitted, according to the notice. The product was sold in conjunction with a Kickstarter.com campaign in the spring of 2019.
Consumers with questions or concerns about the recalled dodgeball safety goggles can contact Exploding Kittens either by email at Support@ExplodingKittens.com or by phone at 866-777-7027 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday.
According to their website, Exploding Kittens sells various card games. Their featured game, Exploding Kittens sold by the company, raised $8.7 million on Kickstarter, an online fundraising site. The creators liken it to “Russian roulette with a deck of cards.”
Other 2019 Recalls Affecting Toys and Collectibles
The Consumer Product Safety Commission will post notices of recalled products that may pose a hazard to consumers on its website. Recalls affect many consumer products, from John Deere utility vehicles to kid’s pajamas.
Recently, a collectible helmet was recalled over concerns about mold. GameStop voluntarily recalled the T-51b Power Armor Collectible Helmet. The helmet was sold in connection with the popular video game, Fallout. The company recalled the helmet because the insert was found to be susceptible to mold growth and could pose problems for those with a compromised immune system.
Another children’s toy was recalled this summer. Crate & Barrel recalled a push walker over concerns that as the toy degrades with time and use, it can develop sharp points. Push walkers are meant to encourage very young children to walk and, naturally, they often fall while using these types of toys.
