Class action settlements opened in February for consumers to make rebate claims through March and beyond. 

The class action settlements resolve claims related to privacy violations, vehicle theft, vehicle oil consumption, unsolicited texts and fraudulent accounts, among other things. 

A company may agree to a class action settlement as a way to resolve claims without admitting fault and/or to garner good faith with consumers while avoiding litigation.

AMC to pay $8.3M over claims it unlawfully tracked website users, shared info

AMC agreed to pay $8.3 million to end claims the company unlawfully tracked website users and shared their information with third parties. 

The settlement benefits a nationwide class of consumers who watched a video through AMC+, Shudder, Acorn TV, ALLBLK, SundanceNow and/or HIDIVE on a mobile app, online website or streaming service controlled by AMC between Jan. 18, 2021, and Jan. 10, 2024. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by April 9, 2024. 

Certain Kia vehicle owners, lessees eligible to benefit from $145M settlement

Hyundai, Kia and others agreed to pay up to $145 million to resolve claims Hyundai produced Kia vehicles with a design flaw that left them vulnerable to damage and theft. 

The settlement benefits a nationwide class of individuals, including those from Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands, who purchased or leased certain Kia vehicles with model year ranges 2011-2022. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Jan. 11, 2025. 

Wendy’s to pay $18.2M over claims it violated privacy regs with employee fingerprint scans

Wendy’s agreed to pay $18.2 million to put to bed claims the company collected employee fingerprints without following Illinois’ privacy regulations. 

The settlement benefits an Illinois class of current and former Wendy’s employees who worked at a corporate-owned Wendy’s in the state and had their fingerprints scanned between Sept. 11, 2013, and Nov. 29, 2023. 

Individuals who want to opt out of the class action settlement must do so by March 13, 2024. 

VW settles claims it manufactured Audi vehicles that consumed excessive oil 

Volkswagen agreed to a class action settlement that ends claims it manufactured certain Audi model vehicles containing defective pistons that caused excessive oil consumption. 

The settlement benefits a nationwide class of current and former owners or lessees, including those from Puerto Rico, of certain Audi vehicles with model year ranges 2012-2017. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by April 15, 2024. 

Waste Management settles claims over Jan. 2021 data breach

Waste Management agreed to a class action settlement resolving claims the company failed to prevent a 2021 data breach that compromised employee information. 

The settlement benefits a class of individuals who received a data breach notification letter from Waste Management in regard to the Jan. 2021 data breach. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by March 14, 2024. 

Subaru settles claims it equipped Ascent vehicles with defective transmissions

Subaru agreed to a class action settlement that ends claims the automaker equipped some of its Ascent vehicles with a defective continuously variable transmission.

The settlement benefits a nationwide class of current and former owners and lessees of model year 2019-2020 Subaru Ascent vehicles. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by April 15, 2024. 

Vivint to pay $9.75M to end claims it used customer credit cards to create false accounts 

Vivint agreed to pay $9.75 million to resolve claims the company unlawfully accessed consumer credit card information and used the data to create false accounts. 

The settlement benefits a class of consumers who had their credit card information accessed by Vivint without authorization and who were subjected to collection efforts regarding a fraudulent account subsequently opened by Vivint from Jan. 1, 2016-Jan. 16, 2024. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by June 7, 2024. 

Aspen Dental Management settles claims it violated Florida law with unsolicited texts

Aspen Dental Management agreed to a class action settlement resolving claims the company violated Florida telemarketing laws by allegedly sending unsolicited text messages. 

The settlement benefits a Florida class of consumers who received a text message from Aspen Dental Management to a number with a Florida area code from July 1, 2021, and Feb. 20, 2024. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by March 31, 2024. 

CFPB to pay $6M over claims it discriminated against Black, Hispanic employees 

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) agreed to pay $6 million to end claims the agency discriminated against its Black and Hispanic employees. 

The settlement benefits a class of African American, Black and/or Hispanic workers whom the CFPB employed in a non-supervisory occupational job with a variety of pay bands from Feb. 13, 2011, to April 19, 2022. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by April 1, 2024. 

Calmark Group to pay $385,200 to end claims it violated biometric privacy law 

Calmark Group agreed to pay $385,200 to end claims the company violated biometric privacy law in Illinois by collecting the fingerprints of its employees with timekeeping clocks. 

The settlement benefits a class of current and former Calmark Group workers who used a hand- or fingerprint- scanning time clock at a Calmark Group facility in Illinois without first providing written consent from Feb. 16, 2018, to June 7, 2019. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by May 18, 2024.

    My Hyundai Elantra was stolen from my job January 4,2023 By a group called the Kia Boys. Due to several cars being stolen I had to pay for a rental after my $900.00 ran out through Geico and I ended up paying out $2700.00 until Hyundai Elantra was able to get the parts to fix my vehicle. I received my car back at the end of April 2023.
