GM Acadia RecallIn the past few years, General Motors has recalled millions of vehicles because of faulty ignition switches, power steering defects and more recently, side airbag deficiencies.

The GMC Acadia recall is one of the latest in these series of recalls.

The GMC Acadia Recall

Over the past several years, many automobiles manufactured by GM under different brands such as Buick, Cadillac, Chevy, GMC, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Saturn have qualified under a series of recalls by the auto giant.

In March 2014, GM announced that over 1.2 million cars were manufactured with a defect which compromised the effectiveness of each cars’ side airbags. The GMC Acadia recall was a part of this announcement.

The vehicles that were affected had defective wiring harnesses. With the increased resistance in the wiring harnesses of both the drive and passenger side-impact airbags can potentially cause safety devices to not deploy in the case of a crash. The seat-mounted side-impact airbags, front center airbags and seat belt pretensioners are all of concern.

Allegedly, GM knew about the faulty wiring long before they issued the GMC Acadia recall. If the side-impact airbags do not deploy in the case of a crash, both passengers and drivers can be seriously injured.

The GMC Acadia recall affects both the Buick Enclave and the GMC Acadia between 2008 and 2013. It also includes the 2009-2013 Chevy Traverse and the 2008-2010 Saturn Outlook automobiles.

Other GM Recalls

The GMC Acadia recall is only one recall that GM has issued over the past few years. Another recall of note is the GM ignition switch recall.

Owners of GM vehicles began reporting injuries and accidents as a result of car engines shutting off while driving. GM was reported that faulty ignition switches in certain cars were to blame.

Over 1.5 million faulty ignition switch cars were recalled by GM by April 2014. Later the recall was amended to include 2.36 million cars worldwide and almost 2 million of those belonging to U.S. customers.

The GM ignition switch recall includes the 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR, 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky vehicles.

As with the GMC Acadia recall, it is suspected that GM knew long before they issued the recalls that there were serious problems with the ignition switches.

The GM ignition switch defect could have been fixed for only 57 cents per car. However, GM was fined $35 million by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Several times it has shut the engine completely off while driving. The electrical system went bad. Its in the shop now getting the alternator replaced. I’m getting rid of this car ASAP

    Hey
I have a 2012 GMC Acadia and I was in an accident a year and a half ago. My airbags didn’t deploy and the accident wasn’t my fault but it was pretty bad. My whole right side of the car got pushed in by the other persons car.

Please inform me if I can get a lawsuit in or something
They fixed my car and never informed me my airbags were recalled.

    Thank you
