More government agencies and researchers have voiced their concerns about the health effects of vaping, but the activity has continued to remain popular, especially with younger users.
Reports show that some people are suffering from vaping related illnesses, although the roots of those medical issues have not yet been explored or firmly stated. People across numerous states using different vaping products have reported medical problems after vaping. In total, hundreds have reported illnesses they believe are tied to the health effects of vaping.
In researching this issue, CNN visited with college students to discuss the habit and how it’s playing out in the lives of users. One of the students CNN spoke to admitted that she was addicted to traditional cigarettes and turned to vaping as a means of helping that addiction.
Initially, that user said that using her JUUL vaping pen had some benefits since she didn’t smell like smoke and found that it was more convenient to use. However, over the time she used it, she started to feel side effects that made her uncomfortable.
According to that college student, for example, she experienced everything from anxiety to joint and lung pain and problems. She also felt that her reliance on the product increased. Whereas she’d previously been smoking one regular cigarette a day, she was using the JUUL device numerous times throughout the day.
In addition to the rising cost of keeping up with her vaping habit, that user became concerned about the rising number of news reports about the health effects of vaping and started to look into the early data.
Several other students interviewed for the CNN piece remarked that their vaping device became a habit they enjoyed throughout the day, some even stating that they constantly had their device on or near them.
Currently, the Centers for Disease Control have captured information from people who have suffered adverse health effects from vaping, but there’s no definitive stance on what caused the problems yet.
All of the cases involved use of e-cigarettes and others have reported problems with vaping THC. Vaping THC involves an illegal purchase, so users cannot be sure about what’s inside the black market cartridges.
Many younger users of vaping products have turned to the devices without realizing the potential side effects. Many vaping products are still relatively new to the market, meaning that long-term studies have not yet been completed.
Data have shown, however, that younger people are vaping in very high numbers. Some devices have higher levels of nicotine inside their pods than others, leading many parents to be concerned about the addictive nature of the habit amidst other concerns about health issues.
While further research is still forthcoming about the impacts of vaping on health, the Surgeon General has already stated that nicotine use and vaping are especially troubling for younger users, many of whom are still developing. Brain development and general addiction concerns are both listed on the Surgeon General’s website about vaping.
If you or someone you know already developed health problems after using e-cigarettes, you could have grounds to speak with a lawyer.
