Dollar General prices class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: Lori Hartline filed a class action lawsuit against Dollar General Corporation and Dolgencorp LLC doing business as Dollar General.
- Why: Hartline claims Dollar General regularly charges more than the advertised shelf price for products sold at its grocery store locations.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Oklahoma federal court.
Dollar General regularly charges customers a higher price for various items at the cash register than what their advertised price is on the shelf, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Lori Hartline claims she has noticed a discrepancy in what she was charged and paid at checkout versus the advertised shelf-price for merchandise she purchased at a Dollar General in Porum, Oklahoma.
Hartline argues she has filed three complaints with the Oklahoma attorney general this year over Dollar General allegedly charging her more at checkout for merchandise than what the advertised shelf-price was.
“It is Defendant’s policy and practice to charge a higher price at the register for merchandise than the price advertised on the unit price labels for the same merchandise on the shelves in Defendant’s Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.
Hartline wants to represent a class of consumers who, within the last three years, have paid more for merchandise than the advertised price labeled on the shelf at a Dollar General store located in Oklahoma.
Complaints also filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio, New York, class action says
Hartline cites complaints that have been filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio and New York by consumers claiming the store regularly charged customers higher prices at the register than the price of merchandise advertised on the shelves.
“Defendant used the same procedures that they employed in charging a higher price than advertised to Plaintiffs when selling the same and/or similar merchandise to numerous other consumers in its Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.
Hartline claims Dollar General is in violation of the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act. She is demanding a jury trial and requesting injunctive and declaratory relief along with an award of actual, treble, statutory and punitive damages for herself and all class members.
A separate class action lawsuit was filed against Dollar General earlier this year by a consumer arguing the company failed to make its website fully accessible to and independently usable by individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

I live in ohio and I’ve said this so many times like why is this so high you guys told said it was this price has the marking for that price and I know ain’t no damn taxes the almost the same amount as you item you’re paying for. I was telling my best friend this I knew they were hiking up the prices. I definitely need to be added becuz I was just at dollar general last week and yesterday now I see this I told the ppl in dollar general they were going to get a class action lawsuit and I was gonna file it but obviously someone bet me to I’m glad so had me to the list
In Amarillo Texas we deal with the same issue at all of the stores. It’s ridiculous! Please add me!
We deal with the same here Add Chicago to the list.
This happens in Brazoria, Texas as well. Even though they try to tell you the price was put in the computer wrong. Or that it just didn’t take the discount off.
I argue with their employees about this alot. It’s so bad I don’t even shop with them anymore. Once you call em out on it they play dumb. I make em adjust the price. They love trying to say they can’t because they need management’s approval. I live in Texas
Happens in TN too! Another way they get you is their coupons…the register doesn’t show the coupons until you hit pay so you’re not even able to see if the coupon is coming off. Every single time I go to DG I’m overcharged somehow.
Numerous times. Sometimes the cashier will change it.
I love in Indiana and this happens at our 4 Dollar General were I live i have been to all of them shopping and run into the same issue. The price on the tag says one thing but when they ring you up it’s completely different. Sometimes it’s only $0.25 but I have had as high as $4.75 price difference on a item. They usually try to argue with you if you tell them the price tags are wrong. There has even been times a whole box of a certain item is in the wrong spot and that’s a whole another mess.
Ok, here’s my opinion from my perspective. I can understand from personal experience all the frustrations and inconveniences that come along with this situation. But without having to fully explain the many ways for how to fix this problem, in detail, the real solution is to fix the gap in employment. It’s easy to change store displays, but takes a closer look from an insiders perspective to change the numbers on the registering system.
It’s all over the practice, It happened to me in new Jersey and Philadelphia and DG knows it but they don’t do anything about it, they don’t enforce their pog and price changes to be updated they use a outside company to handle that but driveline also has crap practices! They as well don’t enforce their employees to do their job of pog and price changes.
