Dollar General prices class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Lori Hartline filed a class action lawsuit against Dollar General Corporation and Dolgencorp LLC doing business as Dollar General.
  • Why: Hartline claims Dollar General regularly charges more than the advertised shelf life for products sold at its grocery store locations.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Oklahoma federal court.

Dollar General regularly charges customers a higher price for various items at the cash register than what their advertised price is on the shelf, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Lori Hartline claims she has noticed a discrepancy in what she was charged and paid at checkout versus the advertised shelf-price for merchandise she purchased at a Dollar General in Porum, Oklahoma.

Hartline argues she has filed three complaints with the Oklahoma attorney general this year over Dollar General allegedly charging her more at checkout for merchandise than what the advertised shelf-price was.

“It is Defendant’s policy and practice to charge a higher price at the register for merchandise than the price advertised on the unit price labels for the same merchandise on the shelves in Defendant’s Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.

Hartline wants to represent a class of consumers who, within the last three years, have paid more for merchandise than the advertised price labeled on the shelf at a Dollar General store located in Oklahoma.

Complaints also filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio, New York, class action says

Hartline cites complaints that have been filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio and New York by consumers claiming the store regularly charged customers higher prices at the register than the price of merchandise advertised on the shelves.

“Defendant used the same procedures that they employed in charging a higher price than advertised to Plaintiffs when selling the same and/or similar merchandise to numerous other consumers in its Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.

Hartline claims Dollar General is in violation of the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act. She is demanding a jury trial and requesting injunctive and declaratory relief along with an award of actual, treble, statutory and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

A separate class action lawsuit was filed against Dollar General earlier this year by a consumer arguing the company failed to make its website fully accessible to and independently usable by individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

On Saturday and today items in ohio did not ring for the correct price that showed when item scanned in app and was marked on sale sign. Today I was told by employee “what do you want me to do about it” “I don’t care what something on your phone says” I said it’s the store app she walked away refusing to help and our store is only self serve as the worker operated register is “broken” and no cash can be accepted.

I’m in Kentucky & have had to ask for a manager numerous times to change the amount because it’s incorrect. I see it all the time & to think how many don’t even notice this?

  4. Wynee howard says:

Dollar General has that bad. 95% of the time. I will tell them your advertisement states this price and you ring up this. Staying this is false advertisement. Each time I take a picture with my phone when I go to the register and ask for a manager

  5. Kelly Adams says:

Happens consistently in Georgia and Tennessee. Just now in Savannah, GA and price on sticker on product and where the product was shelved (made sure upc codes matched). Cashier was young and probably didn’t know its suppose to be corrected to price advertised. May be just $3.25 over, but those add up over time. And they keep going up in their prices little by little thinking it will go unnoticed. There needs to be lawsuits in Georgia and Tennessee for this too.

  6. April Carmickle says:

Happened repeatedly in several stores when we lived in Michigan, and now we live in Kentucky and it’s really bad here too at all the stores. It’s so bad now they don’t even advertised their sale prices in store anymore around here. No signage or sticker changes so you don’t know what is on sale or more expensive till checkout.

  7. Kimberly Cobb says:

This has been Happening to my husband and I for a few years now. In Fort Gibson, Ok and Muskogee, Ok. Every dollar general I go too, the shelves states one price and then when I ring it up, they are charging me a much higher price. I do have proof of it.
