Dollar General prices class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: Lori Hartline filed a class action lawsuit against Dollar General Corporation and Dolgencorp LLC doing business as Dollar General.
- Why: Hartline claims Dollar General regularly charges more than the advertised shelf life for products sold at its grocery store locations.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Oklahoma federal court.
Dollar General regularly charges customers a higher price for various items at the cash register than what their advertised price is on the shelf, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Lori Hartline claims she has noticed a discrepancy in what she was charged and paid at checkout versus the advertised shelf-price for merchandise she purchased at a Dollar General in Porum, Oklahoma.
Hartline argues she has filed three complaints with the Oklahoma attorney general this year over Dollar General allegedly charging her more at checkout for merchandise than what the advertised shelf-price was.
“It is Defendant’s policy and practice to charge a higher price at the register for merchandise than the price advertised on the unit price labels for the same merchandise on the shelves in Defendant’s Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.
Hartline wants to represent a class of consumers who, within the last three years, have paid more for merchandise than the advertised price labeled on the shelf at a Dollar General store located in Oklahoma.
Complaints also filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio, New York, class action says
Hartline cites complaints that have been filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio and New York by consumers claiming the store regularly charged customers higher prices at the register than the price of merchandise advertised on the shelves.
“Defendant used the same procedures that they employed in charging a higher price than advertised to Plaintiffs when selling the same and/or similar merchandise to numerous other consumers in its Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.
Hartline claims Dollar General is in violation of the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act. She is demanding a jury trial and requesting injunctive and declaratory relief along with an award of actual, treble, statutory and punitive damages for herself and all class members.
A separate class action lawsuit was filed against Dollar General earlier this year by a consumer arguing the company failed to make its website fully accessible to and independently usable by individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

She went to check said in on my no not these . I said he there were at least 3 neon 6x 6 placards on same shelve as candles you should move them to shelve with candles in that r on sale that’s very deceptive
She asked if I still want them I said yes because at that point my debit card was processing and approved. . Happen quite often in Newport. TN
Yes add me also this goes on a lot in the state of Oklahoma.
Pricing is never right at my Dollar General. Please add me to this. Thank you very much.
Yes, I agree with you. They have done it with me in Tennessee.
Please add me
I’ve been waiting on this! The one near my home does this ALL THE TIME. I thought they were just too lazy to change the prices but given that it’s been months and the shelf price is still lower than the register prices makes me believe this is purposeful.
Add me has happened to me
Add has happened
please add me to this claim. i’ve experienced this several times in dollar general.
This has happened to me so many times that if I am in Dollar General, I take a picture of the shelf price so that at the checkout I can show the cashier the difference. They even do this with their discounts. If it says 50%, they only give 25%.
Yes, on the discounts, I finally just quit trying to buy the clearance items because its ALWAYS either being overcharged or an argument with the cashier, some of them act like its their pocket money or something it’s honestly ridiculous. When the items go to-or the sign says they go to 90% off it never ever was, same for lower amounts too. But I would be excited about a deal, just to lead to disappointment.
Same here in Florida. I purchased toilet tissue where the shelf price was clearly $4.95 for a 12-roll packaged. Who wouldn’t want that deal? I triple checked the signage and once at the register, it didn’t take the shelf price. Immediately after telling the salesclerk, she wanted to argue with me about and asked that I show her. So, we took our field trip to the shelf where she reviewed the sticker, skew number, and whatever else she was trying to find to figure out why. Another sales associate appeared and told her she’s right the information is right there in front of you. The sales associate then gets mad and blames the system or the night crew for messing up! Ummm…okay! If, I had not challenged this, they would have gotten away with it. However, the embarrassment of blatantly being called a liar for their mistake, and having to prove this was not a get over on one move. Come on!!! I like Dollar General, but they have to own up to this one.
