Dollar General prices class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Lori Hartline filed a class action lawsuit against Dollar General Corporation and Dolgencorp LLC doing business as Dollar General.
  • Why: Hartline claims Dollar General regularly charges more than the advertised shelf price for products sold at its grocery store locations.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Oklahoma federal court.

Dollar General regularly charges customers a higher price for various items at the cash register than what their advertised price is on the shelf, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Lori Hartline claims she has noticed a discrepancy in what she was charged and paid at checkout versus the advertised shelf-price for merchandise she purchased at a Dollar General in Porum, Oklahoma.

Hartline argues she has filed three complaints with the Oklahoma attorney general this year over Dollar General allegedly charging her more at checkout for merchandise than what the advertised shelf-price was.

“It is Defendant’s policy and practice to charge a higher price at the register for merchandise than the price advertised on the unit price labels for the same merchandise on the shelves in Defendant’s Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.

Hartline wants to represent a class of consumers who, within the last three years, have paid more for merchandise than the advertised price labeled on the shelf at a Dollar General store located in Oklahoma.

Complaints also filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio, New York, class action says

Hartline cites complaints that have been filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio and New York by consumers claiming the store regularly charged customers higher prices at the register than the price of merchandise advertised on the shelves.

“Defendant used the same procedures that they employed in charging a higher price than advertised to Plaintiffs when selling the same and/or similar merchandise to numerous other consumers in its Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.

Hartline claims Dollar General is in violation of the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act. She is demanding a jury trial and requesting injunctive and declaratory relief along with an award of actual, treble, statutory and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

A separate class action lawsuit was filed against Dollar General earlier this year by a consumer arguing the company failed to make its website fully accessible to and independently usable by individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

I’ve caught the dollar store in Durango Colorado charging more at check out then on the shelf price, clerk blamed it on system glitch, sue the pants off them !

This is an issue at my local Dollar General in Ocala, Florida. Between the displayed prices, scan and go prices and actually check out prices there is definitely a discrepancy here. This has been going on for quite some time.

I shop dollar general in western NY
      This is a regular occurrence
Employee always says well it’s the system…
      And it happens often….
And some employees claim inability to correct the discrepancy….leading me to pay higher price.
      Same with the clearance items.
They 90% ring up full price
      If I’m not paying attention….
I don’t get the discounted price

I purchased an automatic room deodorizer. The box said 5.00(part of cardboard packaging) right on it but they told me it did not matter it was now 7 something. I am also from Western NY

It happens in Texas stores as well. I use the app every time I shop. And I shop there a lot… app reads I saved over $1000 this year in coupons/savings… that’s a whole lot of shopping. It’s not only the price that appears on the shelves to be inconsistent with what is ringing up, but there are also inconsistencies with the price on the app as well. I still come across items that have been purchased that have a 200% or greater increase than what is listed on shelves and/or app. Most times I can catch it before I buy, but my frequently visits have proven that many items gone unnoticed. I’ve contacted corporate about this… they just don’t give a three dollar bill!!! Texas needs a class action lawsuit against this too.

This is almost always the case at DG and then when you tell them the price on the shelf is different, they’ll apologize and say this is the price did you still want it? Getovers

  8. Shantwanette Glover says:

Crazy story but oh so true. I’m constantly humiliated every time I go in there. Being on a budget I literally count up every b4 I get there and yet every time I go I’m always short. I’m talking put 2 or more items back. And the disrespect with the entire store following me as if I’m stealing. I’ve argued with worked and store manager and if I didn’t know better I would swear before beef and bacon this particular store is a gang or occult. I’ve complained several times thru email now they simply do not respond because they don’t care

  9. Melissa Cuevas says:

I shop there regularly and every time I go there it happens to me every time then the cashier doesn’t wanna honor the price. I have to argue with them that they have to give it to me at that price for advertising it at that price but they never do you say that it’s not their policy please add me.
