Dollar General prices class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: Lori Hartline filed a class action lawsuit against Dollar General Corporation and Dolgencorp LLC doing business as Dollar General.
- Why: Hartline claims Dollar General regularly charges more than the advertised shelf price for products sold at its grocery store locations.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Oklahoma federal court.
Dollar General regularly charges customers a higher price for various items at the cash register than what their advertised price is on the shelf, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Lori Hartline claims she has noticed a discrepancy in what she was charged and paid at checkout versus the advertised shelf-price for merchandise she purchased at a Dollar General in Porum, Oklahoma.
Hartline argues she has filed three complaints with the Oklahoma attorney general this year over Dollar General allegedly charging her more at checkout for merchandise than what the advertised shelf-price was.
“It is Defendant’s policy and practice to charge a higher price at the register for merchandise than the price advertised on the unit price labels for the same merchandise on the shelves in Defendant’s Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.
Hartline wants to represent a class of consumers who, within the last three years, have paid more for merchandise than the advertised price labeled on the shelf at a Dollar General store located in Oklahoma.
Complaints also filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio, New York, class action says
Hartline cites complaints that have been filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio and New York by consumers claiming the store regularly charged customers higher prices at the register than the price of merchandise advertised on the shelves.
“Defendant used the same procedures that they employed in charging a higher price than advertised to Plaintiffs when selling the same and/or similar merchandise to numerous other consumers in its Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.
Hartline claims Dollar General is in violation of the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act. She is demanding a jury trial and requesting injunctive and declaratory relief along with an award of actual, treble, statutory and punitive damages for herself and all class members.
A separate class action lawsuit was filed against Dollar General earlier this year by a consumer arguing the company failed to make its website fully accessible to and independently usable by individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

I’ve lived near a dollar general and have had to go get the sales add from the sales floor to show the associate because they charged me too much luckily I caught it this time. But God knows how many times they got me before and everyone else. So definitely count me in.

Absolutely Dollar General charges more at the register than the shelf and advertised prices in Virginia. Since this store is is one of two stores in town to shop at, I really don’t have another option after 10 pm. When I call them out on for the overpriced item, they tell me anything, i.e. “oh it’s in the wrong place” or “we don’t participate I that”. It’s always something. The managers don’t have a clue what they’re doing.
I was over charged for tide laundry soap and not the shelf it days $5.00 each and when I get to register it says $5.50 each and then I had 10 of each. Also the sparkle paper towels was $.65 more the the shelves price this was in Florida so I asked cashier she said well I can’t change the price to what the price on shelves. And then had a attitude with me. And dollar general also leave old sales tags up and don’t take down after date and I don’t have good vision and I grab the sale that I thought was for that item but it date was past due and I told her well y’all need to take the old sale tags off the shelves so customers want think it’s the sale price.
Add me in
I am overcharged in one way or another every week. I have made complaints to Customer Service online, but they don’t always make corrections or make good on their promo offers. I usually visit the Lake Elsinore, CA store. Please add me.
Yes!
Yes I have pics of a couple different items that are proced at the store and ring up different prices.
At the store recently opened in town they won’t mark down the clearance items either as most stores do. So when they have a clearance on already marked down items you can get an additional 50% off. But if they are not marked people just assume they are getting a deal but they are not.
I had to fight them for a little while on these deals. Now they realize I’m not going to take no for an answer as long as I am right.
Please add me this has happened to me more than a few times
It happens often at DG. So irritating! Add me as a mad customer!
