Dollar General prices class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Lori Hartline filed a class action lawsuit against Dollar General Corporation and Dolgencorp LLC doing business as Dollar General.
  • Why: Hartline claims Dollar General regularly charges more than the advertised shelf price for products sold at its grocery store locations.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Oklahoma federal court.

Dollar General regularly charges customers a higher price for various items at the cash register than what their advertised price is on the shelf, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Lori Hartline claims she has noticed a discrepancy in what she was charged and paid at checkout versus the advertised shelf-price for merchandise she purchased at a Dollar General in Porum, Oklahoma.

Hartline argues she has filed three complaints with the Oklahoma attorney general this year over Dollar General allegedly charging her more at checkout for merchandise than what the advertised shelf-price was.

“It is Defendant’s policy and practice to charge a higher price at the register for merchandise than the price advertised on the unit price labels for the same merchandise on the shelves in Defendant’s Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.

Hartline wants to represent a class of consumers who, within the last three years, have paid more for merchandise than the advertised price labeled on the shelf at a Dollar General store located in Oklahoma.

Complaints also filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio, New York, class action says

Hartline cites complaints that have been filed against Dollar General in New Jersey, Ohio and New York by consumers claiming the store regularly charged customers higher prices at the register than the price of merchandise advertised on the shelves.

“Defendant used the same procedures that they employed in charging a higher price than advertised to Plaintiffs when selling the same and/or similar merchandise to numerous other consumers in its Oklahoma stores,” the Dollar General class action states.

Hartline claims Dollar General is in violation of the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act. She is demanding a jury trial and requesting injunctive and declaratory relief along with an award of actual, treble, statutory and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

A separate class action lawsuit was filed against Dollar General earlier this year by a consumer arguing the company failed to make its website fully accessible to and independently usable by individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

This happens in Minnesta too. I purchased a pair of trading glasses the other day and the manufacturer had printed $6 on the tag and they rung up at $7! And when they have a sale the sale price NEVER rings up correctly.

In MN also coupons don’t work and being charged more at the register than the shelf price and prices seem to go increase on a weekly basis. When price discrepancy is pointed out, it doesn’t get corrected. I think the class action suit should be opened up nationwide.

    2. Kat says:

That’s because the management is not doing their job of changing prices on shelves.

  3. Charlotte Marie Parker says:

I live in Baytown TX 77520 the same thing is happening here went to 4 of their stores here and yes the price for their merchandise is very much different once you check out you may as well go to Walmart or krogers or target and another of the products especially food items is out of date and they are charging much higher prices at the register

  4. Yvonne says:

Happens to me all the time in Arizona but it’s the closest store within walking distance for me so I don’t have much of a choice most of the time.

Yes in Oklahoma and I’ve even written their corporate office and complained.

  8. Candace Watkins says:

Memphis, TN too, I guess it’s just their way of cheating their customers all around because no way this is just happening as a mistake everywhere.

  9. Shelley Sinnathamby says:

Yes here in Moore Oklahoma this happens all the time every day at all our Dollar General stores. I even called them out on it and they didn’t care.

  10. Stacy Hines says:

My name is Stacy hunts and I’ve been living in New Mexico for a total of 10 years I have been going to Dollar general until about 5 and 1/2 years until the last three and a half years. The prices there are not adequate are never correct when you skipped when you scanner item sometimes it comes back to where the item is not found or not into the system. There are also ways to where you go check out yourself check out for example if you have a hairbrush it would pretty much ring up for a bag of chips instead of an actual hair brush. This has been taking place longer than I have known didn’t speak on it because I have a grateful heart and do not believe in the retaliation. But for other people that are out here again scammed or being overcharged should not have to go do things that I went through. I hope the lawsuit goes through and I hope everyone thank you for posting this article about your general lawsuit scan and over charging our customers are our employees for our fellow community . You’resis truly Stacy

You are absolutely right I live in South Carolina in the same thing happens here and then when you take your seat back in to try to get your money back every employee is so rude I just quit going there but I’m thinking about starting a lawsuit for South Carolina over the Dollar generals
