TRESemmé Keratin Shampoo Maker Facing Class Action Over Preservative
Another class action lawsuit — the third in the last two months — has accused the maker of TRESemmé hair products for using a controversial preservative in its keratin shampoo.
The plaintiff claims Unilever uses the chemical DMDM hydantoin in TRESemmé Smoothing and Keratin Smooth Color shampoos in spite of evidence the chemical can lead to hair loss and scalp irritation.
The chemical also allegedly can cause cancer by slowly leaching formaldehyde, yet the TRESemmé shampoo remains on the market.
According to the complaint, the Food and Drug Administrations (FDA) lists DMDM among the top allergens in cosmetics. The FDA also can “trigger the immune system to release chemical substances,” leading to a variety of adverse reactions.
The plaintiff is seeking to represent a nationwide Class of individuals who purchased the TRESemmé hair products.

Keebler Fudge Is Fake, Class Action Lawsuit Says
A class action lawsuit has been filed accusing Keebler fudge maker Ferrara Candy Co. of fraudulently selling and marketing the chocolate.
According to the plaintiff, the fudge in Fudge Stripes cookies is made using cheaper ingredients than are used in traditional fudge.
The cookies are then marketed as being “made with real Keebler fudge” and sold for a premium.
The complaint says while traditional fudge is made using milk, sugar and butter, the fudge on Keebler Fudge Stripes cookies is made using substitute ingredients such as whey and vegetable oil.

Ford Hit With Class Action Lawsuit Over Claims Of Excessive Oil Consumption In Trucks
Ford Motor Co. has been hit with a class action lawsuit alleging certain popular truck models have a defect that causes excessive consumption of oil.
According to the plaintiffs, Ford knew about the issue in its F-150 truck engines for years.
The defect allegedly causes the engines to stall unexpectedly or fail while “in operation at any time,” putting the driver and any passengers at “an increased risk of accident, injury, or death.”
The plaintiffs allege Ford refuses to issue a recall or “adequately repair” the truck engines without charging consumers. In some cases, the plaintiffs say, the company has not disclosed the defect to truck owners who report excessive oil consumption.

Crest Toothpaste Can’t Reverse Gingivitis Damage, Class Action Lawsuit Says
A recent class action lawsuit claims Procter & Gamble falsely advertises Crest toothpaste as being able to reverse damage caused by gingivitis
The complaint says Crest Gum & Enamel Repair toothpaste is advertised as “Clinically Proven to Help Reverse Gingivitis” and “Repairs Weakened Enamel” — claims that are false and misleading.
The plaintiff says the FDA hasn’t approved any over-the-counter products for the repair of any gum damage, including damage caused by gingivitis.
While the toothpaste does contain fluoride, the plaintiff says, it can only control or prevent the gum disease — not reverse or repair it.

Trek Bike Helmet Maker Hit With Class Action Lawsuit
Trek Bicycles’ bike helmets don’t provide the level of safety advertised, according to a recent class action lawsuit.
The plaintiff alleges the Bontrager WaveCel-branded Trek helmet doesn’t provide the advertised protection — even though it costs more than other helmets.
The plaintiff claims the company is taking advantage of consumers’ increased awareness of traumatic brain injury in an effort “to capture the largest share of the helmet market.”
According to the complaint, the company claims — falsely — that the helmet is “Up to 48x more effective than traditional foam helmets.” However, the study used to back up that claim was allegedly written by people who have a financial interest in the helmets.
Not only that, the plaintiff claims, the researchers conducting the study used a different helmet that had been modified with the Trek helmet’s WaveCel components.
