Some Jmkcoz eye shadow palettes may be tainted with asbestos.

Two Jmkcoz eye shadow kits have reportedly been found to have an asbestos contamination issue after testing by the Environmental Working Group (EWG).

The mineral asbestos was once commonly used in construction and manufacturing, but has been considered a human carcinogen—that is, a substance capable of causing cancer in humans—for decades. Exposure to asbestos can lead to fibers building up in the lungs, eventually causing a number of major complications, including mesothelioma cancer and asbestosis.

The Jmkcoz eye shadow palettes in question are the Jmkcoz 120 Colors Eyeshadow Palette, sold on Amazon, and the Beauty Glazed Gorgeous Me Eye Shadow Tray Palette, sold through the company’s website, Amazon, and eBay.

The EWG commissioned laboratory tests of these makeup kits, and on May 15 released the findings. The lab found asbestos in both of them. In the Jmkcoz 120 Colors kit, the lab results showed up to nearly 3.9 million asbestos fiber structures per gram of eyeshadow. The lab tested 45 shades from the kit, and 40 percent of them contained some amount of asbestos.

The lab also tested the Beauty Glazed Gorgeous Me kit, finding up to 3.5 million asbestos fiber structures per gram of eyeshadow. From this kit, the lab tested 25 shades, 20 percent of which contained asbestos.

“We urge anyone who has purchased either of these products for themselves, family or friends to take necessary steps to ensure they are no longer being used,” said Tasha Stoiber, Ph.D., a senior scientist with EWG. “And we call on these companies and online retailers to immediately pull both of these products from their respective websites. Asbestos, even at the smallest levels of exposure, can cause serious harm—even death—later in life.”

Indeed, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration notes that “There is no ‘safe’ level of exposure for any type of asbestos fiber. Asbestos exposures as short in duration as a few days have caused mesothelioma in humans.”

Jmkcoz eye shadow palettes may be contaminated with asbestos.Since the EWG’s alert about this asbestos contamination, both of these Jmkcoz eye shadow kits have been taken down off of Amazon and eBay. However, EWG warns parents and caregivers to avoid any makeup palettes like these that include talc, in order to avoid this potential asbestos contamination. However, the Beauty Glazed Gorgeous Me kit was still available on beautyglazedcosmetics.com as of May 26.

Indeed, this discovery with the Jmkcoz eye shadow kits is part of a larger trend with asbestos-contaminated cosmetics. Notably, unlike with food and drug products, the government does not require safety testing for cosmetics before they go on the market.

This has led to an ongoing issue with Johnson & Johnson’s talc-based baby powder products, which the brand is known for. The baby powder has been linked with asbestos contamination, sparking a wave of litigation over asbestos cancer and eventually led the company to announce in May that it would end the sales of this product in North America.

Filing an Asbestos Lawsuit

A growing number of people are turning to litigation over asbestos exposure, alleging they developed asbestos cancer after exposure to dangerous asbestos fibers, often while on the job or through a contaminated product.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with mesothelioma or another cancer after exposure to asbestos, you may be able to file an asbestos cancer lawsuit. Of course, filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by a cancer diagnosis, nor can it bring a loved one back to life, but it can at least help to alleviate the financial burden incurred by medical expenses, lost wages, and more.

Filing a lawsuit can be a daunting prospect, especially in the wake of a cancer diagnosis, so Top Class Actions has laid the groundwork for you by connecting you with an experienced attorney. Consulting an attorney can help you determine if you have a claim, navigate the complexities of litigation, and maximize your potential compensation.
