Hallmark Baby Teether Recall Overview:
- Who: Hallmark issued a recall on its brand of baby teether rings.
- Why: The company determined the baby teethers were a choking hazard after receiving four reports of the wooden teether rings breaking.
- Where: The recall is nationwide across the United States and Canada.
Hallmark issued a nationwide recall on Wednesday for around 16,700 baby teether rings sold in the United States and Canada after determining they posed a choking hazard.
Hallmark is offering customers who purchased the baby teethers a $25 gift card that can be redeemed at any Hallmark Gold Crown Store or on its website.
Hallmark Baby Teether Problems Reported
The company says it received four reports of the three-inch wide wooden teether rings breaking, with one child sticking the pieces in their mouth and another baby suffering a pinched lip.
The recalled Hallmark baby teethers came in 11 different styles and were sold under the names “Plush and Wood Teether and Rattle” and “Wood and Detachable Cloth Teether for Little Droolers.” The teethers weigh less than one pound and are made of softwood with attachments that include plush heads, plush animal heads, and attached decorative fabric.
Hallmark sold the teethers at stores around the United States and Canada, including Hallmark Gold Crown Stores, supermarkets, pharmacies, boutique gift shops and online between June 2015 to June 2021.
The teethers were manufactured in China and sold for between $10 and $25.
Consumers who purchased the teethers should stop using them immediately and can contact Hallmark at 800-425-5627 or online.
Hallmark previously issued a recall on its frosted balsam jar candles in 2019 over concerns the jars were susceptible to breaking when lit.
A European baby formula company issued a recall earlier this month on its infant formula after determining it failed to meet US nutrition and labeling requirements.
Top Class Actions will continue to monitor this and other safety recalls for infant and consumer products to help keep readers informed.
