A Kia and Hyundai engine lawsuit settlement resolves a class action lawsuit claiming that some of its Kia and Hyundai vehicles suffer from engine defects that can lead to failure.
The Kia and Hyundai engine lawsuit settlement benefits owners and lessees of certain Hyundai and Kia vehicles. A full list of eligible vehicles can be found in the “Who’s Eligible” section below.
According to the Kia and Hyundai class action lawsuit, the class vehicles suffer from a defect related to the engine’s connecting rod bearing. This bearing can allegedly fail, causing engine seizure, stalling, engine failure and even engine fires — all of which may not be covered by warranty.
Kia is a South Korea-based vehicle company that owns both Hyundai and Kia brands.
Kia hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the Hyundai class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Hyundai class action lawsuit settlement, class members can receive out-of-pocket expense reimbursement, compensation for trade-ins and sales, compensation for total vehicle losses, warranty extensions and participate in a rebate program.
To be eligible for certain types of compensation — such as for rental car, towing, ride-sharing or other transportation and incidental expenses — under the Hyundai class action lawsuit settlement, the knock sensor detection software (KSDS) update on the class vehicle must be performed on or before Nov. 4, 2023.
The deadline for exclusion and objection was Aug. 7, 2023.
The final approval hearing for the Kia and Hyundai engine lawsuit settlement was held Sept. 8, 2023.
The deadline to submit a claim for most benefits in the Kia and Hyundai class action lawsuit is July 8, 2024.

I have a 2017 Kia Optima I bought in Jan of 2021 with 35K miles on it. It now has 50K miles. The transmission slips and Ive replaced the front brakes and rotors twice in less than a year and the back brakes 6 months ago.. I have a warranty until 2026and they will not honor it. I pay $476.14 a month never missed a payment $17,000 Ive paid already and still owe 13,K ! ?????HELP
I had to get a new transmission. Yes, I had to pay. I want my money. It was a bad experience. The dealership had it 3 weeks before returning my call telling me they had to order it. They said they lost the key. Someone working there stole my battery I had to buy one and the clamp that holds it down. I had to pay twice before they fixed the leak in the oil pan.😡 The wheelwell liner came as a result to the dealerships mechanic. When I purchased it the dealership refused to detail it…NEVER AGAIN KIA
I have a 2023 Kia Seltos in January of 2024 my engine seized up. I’ve had 3 other Kia’s and loved them until now. This will probably be my last kia. It has been nothing but problems.
I bought a brand new 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe on New Year’s Eve of 2022. I came in a few days later and wrote a check and paid off the car so I didn’t have any car payments. Between then and now I have had this vehicle back at the dealership, twice being towed, for drivetrain problems. This car has 30,000 Miles Total. Additionally, this will be the second replacement of the front brakes.
I completed the a case with Hyundai regarding lemon law and their arbitrator.
You guessed it, I lost. But they did offer me a consolation prize of $600 of which I turned down.
The vehicle is currently back at the dealership being assessed and they graciously given me a 2023 Santa Fe as a loaner vehicle.
Approximately the fifth time I’ve had this vehicle back at the dealership for transmission and similar issues.

I have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata that is on its 4th replacement motor right now. I’ve spent so much money on it and so much of the time I’ve had it, it’s just been a driveway ornament. I bought this car used, when it’s 3rd motor gave out. And on top of how many times it’s been replaced, those motors are impossible to find used at a junk yard or anywhere for under $3000 dollars. They are rediculously expensive and I live on a fixed income, my money is limited, I can’t just pay 3000 dollars every 6 months. To top it off, my car has blue link that still hasn’t been set up for me to use it…. it’s a headache.
