Honda Infotainment Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Two plaintiffs have asked a judge to grant final approval to a $33 million class action settlement.
  • Why: Honda agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it sold vehicles with defective infotainment systems.
  • Where: The lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

A California federal judge must decide whether to grant final approval to a $33 million Honda class action settlement that will resolve claims that Honda sold vehicles with defective infotainment systems.

On Tuesday, Plaintiffs Lesley and Tom Conti filed their motion seeking final approval of the class action settlement. Approximately 450,000 class members may be entitled to benefits from the Honda infotainment class action settlement if it is approved.

The plaintiffs allege that certain Honda Odyssey, Pilot and Passport vehicles were sold with an infotainment system defect that emitted startling “cracking” or “knocking” noises, disabled GPS and radio systems and malfunctioning backup cameras that could pose a distraction and safety concerns.

The specific Honda vehicles named in the infotainment defect class action settlement include:

  • 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey (Elite, EX, EX-L, EX-LNR and Touring trims)
  • 2018 Honda Pilot (2EX-LNR, 2TRG, 2TRG 7P, 4Elite, 4EX, 4EX-L, 4EX-LNR, 4TRG and 4TRG 7P trims)
  • 2019 Honda Passport (2EX-L, 2TRG, 4Elite, 4EX-L and 4TRG trims)

The Honda infotainment settlement was preliminarily approved in June.

What Benefits Does the Proposed Honda Infotainment Settlement Provide?

If approved, the class action settlement provides more than $33 million in benefits to eligible class members. It includes additional training for Honda technicians and dealerships. 

Additionally, Honda says it will create an online resource to keep drivers informed about potential issues and recalls affecting the infotainment system. The motor company has also agreed to offer ongoing software updates to address infotainment system issues throughout the settlement’s extended warranty period.

Class members whose infotainment issues were not resolved may be entitled to two free years of HondaLink Security Service, which is a $178 value, according to the Honda settlement documents. 

The proposed Honda settlement would also provide compensation to class members who seek reimbursement for qualifying transportation costs if they returned their vehicle more than once to a dealership for infotainment system repair and/or battery recharging costs if their car battery drained because the infotainment system failed to turn off.

    Bought a new 2021 honda pilot touring. First the mirror face came off then battery went dead they replaced it now the DVD player quit working an loud crackling noises in speakers wont quit. Screen goes on an off. We only have 27,400 miles on car, now I learn honda sold cars knowing this problem existed. I see that a class action law suite is filed over this problem. What should i do!

    Hello,
    I own a 2016 Honda Odyssey and have these same issues. For example, yesterday, December 31, 2022, I drove to the store. A few minutes later I unlock the van and it begins beeping several times. I was able to start it and then the LCD screen says enter a passcode or press and hold the radio power button for 2 seconds. This is not the first time this has happened. Usually, the van will not start at all. No lights and no sign of life…like the battery is dead. Also, while driving the LCD screen sometimes flashes odd numbers and then says Acura 2009 and something else. And…the backup camera stopped working 4 months after I purchased the vehicle for reasons I cannot explain. And, when I open the driver’s side door, all the windows including the sunroof roll open about a 1/4 of an inch. Oh, and twice I came to find the van with all windows and sunroof completely open! This happened when I was out and about! Parked, locked the van, walked away…came back and what do you know, all windows open! The last time it was raining hard and the van was drenched! The van shakes at high speeds as well. This issue is not limited to the years specified in the claim. This needs serious reviewing.

    2021 Honda Pilot owner less than 8000 miles and have every issues outlined above. The dealer has replaced one harness for the rear entertainment system and next week will be replacing the entire dash wiring harness. This is crazy as the vehicle is only about 9 months old. How can these parts already be bad? Unless they were faulty from the start? Fayetteville NC

    My 2018 Honda Odyssey is constantly having problems with the battery draining. We are on our 4th battery since we’ve purchased the vehicle. We just had them put a new battery in a week ago and just checked it, it’s at 55% from sitting idle overnight. Honda has done nothing to remedy the issue and denies any knowledge of this class action lawsuit.

    Please contact me I am having the same issue. Screen says MOST Network issue then goes black. Honda claim to have fixed the issue a few weeks ago but this has happened again. 2021 Honda Pilot.
