Jeep fuel pumps class action overview:
- Who: A Jeep driver is suing automaker FCA US LLC.
- Why: The plaintiff says the automaker made certain Jeep and Dodge Ram models with fuel pumps that may fail early.
- Where: The Jeep fuel pumps class action was filed in a Michigan federal court.
- What are my options: Advance Auto Parts carries many options when it comes to fuel pumps.
A number of Jeep and Dodge Ram vehicles were built with fuel pumps that can fail early, causing safety risks, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Sherman Fielding III filed the class action complaint against FCA US LLC on March 24 in a Michigan federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.
According to the lawsuit, certain 2020-2022 Jeep Wranglers, 2021-2022 Jeep Gladiators and 2020-2022 Ram 1500 Pickups are affected by a high-pressure fuel pump issue that might introduce “internally failed component debris” into the fuel system.
This can potentially cause what is called fuel starvation, which may then result in an “unexpected loss of motor power,” the lawsuit states, citing a safety recall notice.
The recall notice also states that “the remedy for this condition is not currently available,” Fielding states.
FCA has no known solution for the issue, which impacts plaintiff economically, he says
Fielding says he bought a new 2021 Jeep Wrangler for about $88,300, only to be notified of the defect from a rideshare application after it failed a safety inspection.
He alleges the company falsely advertised the vehicles because it marketed them as being durable and having a level of “superiority” to other similar vehicles, he says.
“[FCA US LLC] has long known that the defective vehicles contain the defect,” Fielding alleges.
“Defendant has exclusive access to information about the defects through its dealerships, pre- release testing data, warranty data, customer complaint data, and replacement part sales data, among other sources of aggregate information about the problem.”
Fielding seeks to represent a nationwide class of consumers who are current or former owners or lessees of one of the allegedly affected vehicles, plus a Florida subclass.
He is suing for breach of express warranty, unjust enrichment and violations of Florida consumer laws and seeks damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.
Meanwhile, FCA US LLC is facing a class action lawsuit alleging a defect prevents customers from using the electric operation of Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles.

Fielding is represented by Zachary D. Ludens, Jordan A. Shaw and Lauren N. Palen of Zebersky Payne Shaw Lewenz LLP and J. Dennis Card of Consumer Law Organization PA.
The FCA US LLC class action lawsuit is Sherman Fielding III v. FCA US LLC, Case No. 2:23-cv-10691, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

5 thoughts onJeep class action claims some Jeep, Dodge Ram models have fuel pumps that fail early
I have a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, are there any pending lawsuits for this make/model/year? I purchased the Jeep new Late Sept 2021, then March/April 2024 it completely stopped on me, kept trying to start it, it would start and then immediately shut off again. Had to have Jeep towed and then found out it need new fuel pump. When they were replacing it, they said the one that was in there just fell apart as they were removing it. Dealer said they have several of these incidents however their was no recall on them. Is there anything we can do, start a lawsuit perhaps.
There isn’t enough room in Yahoo email to tell the tale of how many times it has been serviced, or how many Heater Cores they have replaced, (the number is reaching double digits, if you count both front and back Heater Cores). and how many months it has been out of service waiting on parts, to be replaced that were actually still covered under warranty, that Dodge/Mopar originally would not fix, and/or was told they were unavailable. Not to mention the weeks of phone calls to both MOPAR and Dodge Customer Service to get them to fix the vehicle, only to be told I have to call the latter. Then only to calling both numbers and finally getting the exact same Customer Service Rep. (La Porshe) for both Toll Free Numbers. Until finally I email the CEO’s of both Dodge and MOPAR (Stellantis) and the vehicle was fixed. They still owe me of $600.00 deductibles and incidental (for the next & the next repairs(#2 & 3) ) that were still covered under previous parts warranty. I am not the only person in the United States of America to be treated this way by Dodge & Mopar, but I may be the Customer with the longest running document case. The have pretty much stopped charging me for ANY repairs to the vehicle, but I still can’t get rid of it! I am complaining to you because, this is for all the people that they did this to who could not afford the repairs & didn’t get the Lifetime Warranty! We will never own another Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep vehicle!
Add me to the list I bought a brand new 2021 jeep gladiator ecodiesel Nov2020 it just failed at around 101k miles has been at the dealership a month and one week, parts won’t be in until late June. I’m a mother of three in the middle of college exams , don’t have any other transportation. I am at a point right now that I don’t know what else to do . They have not given me a rental I’ve paid a month without my vehicle … and now I might just have to pay a rental somehow because I can no longer afford to sit at home and wait. Already paid almost $400.00 to have it towed. This is outrages to say the least. I never expected this to be a horror story I wanted this jeep to last me a long time with the thought of buying out my lease and now I just don’t know. I’m furious.
I had a 2018 1500 eco diesel. Fuel pump couldn’t be ordered, my truck seized, and I was out of a vehicle for 6 months and they said it was a lemon. I got sick in the desert 6 hours warranty could not tow, AAA could not tow or insurance because it was mother’s day and Sunday and nobody could get me. I paid someone 400 cash to come get me in which I was 2 hours away from home and had to leave my truck on the side of the highway. They only gave me partial of my truck warranty back and the money I paid to the truck. ( finance) they didn’t care that the value of my truck was extremely higher or even gave me a truck or car to borrow during the process, I had to uber everywhere and could not travel from Arizona to California to see my kids. Very stressful situation. My truck had many recalls and was leaking from who knows where, I couldn’t drive in the rain and the manufacturer or dealer could not find where it comes from. Amongst many other recalls and issues!!
I have a 22 Gladiator with the 3.0. I have contacted FCA multiple times over the problem and have been told their is no fix. What can I do?
