Lead plaintiffs claim that the 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey and 2019 Honda Pilot are afflicted with a defective in-vehicle communication, navigation, and entertainment system – the infotainment system.

The Honda infotainment system defect causes the system to crash or freeze unexpectedly, according to the Honda class action lawsuit.

The plaintiffs include residents of Ohio who allege that they experienced unexpected problems with the infotainment systems in their Honda vehicles.

The infotainment system controls many of the vehicles’ safety features, including the back-up camera, cabin watch, and navigation, alleges the Honda Odyssey class action lawsuit.

If these features, along with the entertainment system, fails, the driver can become distracted, posing a safety risk, points out the plaintiffs.

“Honda either knew of the defect before marketing the Vehicles or failed to conduct adequate testing of the Vehicles system prior to its release,” alleges the Honda class action lawsuit.

“Regardless, soon after the release of the Vehicles, Honda must have known of the defect based on the numerous customer complaints it received, and yet Honda continued to market the Vehicles.”

Both the plaintiffs and other consumers have reportedly complained of issues with the infotainment systems, some that arose mere months into owning the vehicles.

According to the Honda class action lawsuit, there were so many complaints about the allegedly defective infotainment system, that Consumer Reports downgraded the Honda Odyssey to “No Longer Recommended.”

The plaintiffs say that they and other consumers have attempted to remedy the problem by getting the infotainment centers in their Honda Odysseys and Pilots replaced, but the car maker merely swaps out one defective part for another.

“Due to the inherent and permanent nature of the common defect in the Covered Vehicles which cause them to fail, even after repeated replacements, Plaintiffs and the members of the Class have incurred and will continue to incur significant expenses,” alleges the Honda Pilot class action lawsuit.

Further, the Honda class action lawsuit alleges that the car maker refuses to acknowledge the defect, instead hides it from current and future customers.

“Defendant concealed, and continues to conceal, the fact that the Covered Vehicles contain the defective infotainment systems,” states the Honda Odyssey class action lawsuit. “Defendant also continues to conceal the fact that the replacement components it provides in an attempt to repair the defect are equally defective.”

The Honda Odyssey class action lawsuit seeks to represent a nationwide Class of those who purchased model years 2018 and 2019 Honda Odyssey and 2019 Honda Pilot vehicles.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages along with a court injunction against Honda, restitution, and/or disgorgement.

The Honda Odyssey Class Action Lawsuit is Conti, et al. v. American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Case No. 2:19-cv-02160, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Western Division.

    Me too I have lots of problems with my Honda Odyssey touring elite 2018 model 40000 miles it sudddenly stopped in middle of an 4 road intersection and transmission problem,following which electrical popping noises in the van so annoying noise from speakers,they replaced electrical harnesses and various other repairs despite me buying additional warranty for 100000miles 6 yrs warranty ended up spending 1800-2900$ each time on 4 occasions I have all the info and pictures

    Same!!! 2018 Odyssey and I’m in a wheelchair. Super inconvenient when it needs to be serviced since I can’t rent & drive just any vehicle.

    My screen shut off along with the music and its how i noticed. I pulled over like I was kinda freaking out and shut my car off in the high way and hope it was fixed. I took my car back to honda like i was going in for the usual routine and I told them about it they said they’ll check it out. Got my car back after. They told me everything seems fine. That same day it happen to me again so I pulled over and shut my car off again twice. – 2018 Odyssey EXL Nav Res

    Me too bought 2021 Honda Odyssey Elite in December of 2020 only have 2500 miles on car and infotainment center goes on and off by itself every few minutes.

      I’m actively going through this with my 2021 Pilot. They said the parts are on back order then there’s a waiting list to get it fixed which could take up to a year. Pissed off is an understatement. I’ve had my car a year and I’m not really sure how much longer I’m going to have it.

    We are currently experiencing this as we speak. 2019 Odyssey. 3rd time being serviced for this. We have been in an accident because of this issue. Latest issue is car brakes automatically when no one is around

    Please let me know how I can be added to the lawsuit. I’ve been going back and forth with Honda for two years now even after trading in my 2019 Odyssey with these issues for a 2020 to be dealing with the same exact issues!

    2020 Odyssey have brought in 3 times they had it for a week at a time said was fixed but is still not fixed. Now they are telling me there is no solution for this at the moment. Add me to this list

      Me too! 2020 Honda Odyssey, three months old the screen has gone blank except occasionally for the backup camera and the Honda symbol appears on the screen. They have no solution and American Honda does not respond except to say someone will call tomorrow, This has been going on for over two weeks. The service department where I purchased the car told me it could be six months but they really have no idea and can do nothing right now.
