honda civicA Honda class action lawsuit alleges that 2016 to 2018 Honda Civics possess a defective air conditioning system. 

Plaintiff Andre Wong says he owns a 2016 Honda Civic and was not informed of the air conditioning defect at the time of his purchase. Allegedly, he purchased the vehicle new and no defects were disclosed.

Wong states that over the course of three years, he brought his vehicle in for service related to the AC defect. Honda technicians reportedly tried to repair the problem but have not provided an effective repair.

The defect in the 2016 – 2018 Honda Civics allegedly causes the vehicle’s air conditioning system to malfunction and stop working while the it’s in operation. According to Wong, the problem is caused by a defect in the design or manufacture of the air conditioning condenser unit. 

The Honda class action lawsuit states that the air conditioner defect negatively affects the drivers’ use and enjoyment of their vehicles. Additionally, the problem allegedly affects the safety and value of the 2016 – 2018 Class vehicles. 

According to the Honda A/C class action lawsuit, the lack of a functioning air conditioner can cause health problems that expose the driver and occupants of the vehicle to an increased risk of injury or death. Allegedly, these risks are exacerbated by the fact that climate control and defroster controls are affected. 

In his Honda class action lawsuit, Wong claims that Honda actively concealed the fact that the air conditioners in the 2016, 2017, and 2018 Honda Civic were prone to failure. Allegedly, the company also concealed the health risks associated with the defect.

Wong claims that Honda has long been aware of the defect but makes a practice of refusing to repair air conditioners without charging customers. According to Wong, the company goes so far as to refuse to acknowledge the problem when owners or lessees of the vehicles bring their vehicles in for service related to problems with the defect. 

Wong goes on to say that many drivers have requested that Honda provide a remedy for the A/C problem at no charge, but Honda fails to acknowledge the defect. Allegedly, Honda refuses to acknowledge the defect even when it occurs within the warranty period.

The plaintiff claims that Honda further recommends costly repairs to customers which they are forced to pay for themselves. 

This is not the first time that Honda has faced complaints over alleged air conditioning defects. In 2012, the company settled similar claims of AC/compressor defects in some Honda Odyssey, Honda CR-V and Acura TSX vehicles. Now, customers are claiming that the problem may plague more vehicles.

    My car has gone to the dealership four times for repairs to the air conditioner. Every summer, it stops working. Every summer, it has to go back. It costs me time & money to do this. I had thought that the problem was resolved last summer when my AC was working this summer, but alas July 28th, it stopped working. Each time, I was not charged for the repair. Until now.

    I got an appointment to bring it in today to Matt Burne Honda in Scranton, PA and was told it might not be covered by my extended warranty I purchased (in addition to the 10 year extended warranty).

    I have a 2017 Honda Civic with only 24,000 miles now blowing hot air when I turn the AC on. I called Honda of Santa Monica, were I was told I need to pay $375.00 for an inspection to find out if the problem is related to and can be cover by the “warranty extension on the 2016-2021 Civic A/C compressor shaft seal leak”. If in fact the seal has leaked, Honda only will cover that, but I’ve been reading everywhere and I’ve been explained by a second option, that the problem is likely to be the evaporator, which is a very expensive part and labor, likely over a thousand dollars, which I’m confirming by reading the comments of people here. Honda has always been a great brand of car for a person like me, hard working and I valor an investment in a car that is trustworthy and reliable. Honda needs to fix this, not a lot of people have the means to pay thousands of dollars in repairs for AC which is come to be a standard necessary in cars nowadays.

    I am also having issues with my 2016 Honda civic – just had to replace the evap cooler @ $1,600.00 and two weeks later it is back in the shop for A/C still blowing hot air.

    My compressor has been replaced twice but the AC only worked for a couple weeks after each replacement. Now they are saying they need to replace evaporator $2400 no warranty. 2016 Honda civic. Is there any way a lawyer can help with this?

      Me too! And I live in Phoenix. Az with temps as high as 118 this year. Even eith the extended warranty now for 10 years the evaporator isnt covered which is just not right.

    Had the same issue. Had a 2017 civic brand new off the lot. As soon as I passed my warranty the AC went out and they refused to fix it. Car was also making squeaking noises every time I turned to the left. As well as back camera not turning on every time. Dealer said it’s out of warranty and if have to pay cash to fix ac system and pay to fix squeaking noises which was “manufactured defect” but warranty wouldn’t cover anything.
    After they wouldn’t fix it, I traded my car in at a different dealer and received no value for it.
    Waste of time and money going through Honda.

    Same here, my 2016 Honda Civic is at 101300, extended warranty won’t cover the AV evaporator leak because my car is above 100k. Local Honda shop quoted me at 2k to fix it. I am waiting on my case to be reviewed by Honda Corporation. Seems like the whole AC system is faulty. I hope Honda can extend the warranty for the whole system. I already paid almost $300 for the AC diagnostics. Such a disappointment. If you have a faulty AC please contact them, perhaps if enough customers have the same issue they will extend the warranty. I am for sure not happy about it.

    We purchased a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback touring from Honda after 3 yrs with 35k miles the aircon was blowing only hot air due to leak of refrigerant from the compressor they refused the warranty because according to them we are more than 3 years. But 3 weeks ago we received a letter from Honda acknowledging the issue and extending the warranty from 3 yrs to 10 yrs. We brought our car to Honda dealership service and they repaired it free of charge. Please bring your car to Honda if your car is having a/c problem. The letter also mentioned they will reimburse the cost if it was already repaired you just have to provide proof of purchase.

    I have a 2018 Honda Civic that started blowing hot air. Took it to Honda dealer they exchanged the condenser and told me the evaporator was also leaking and that wasnt covered by them so I had to pay $2,500.00 to repair it. I told them I wanted to get a second opinion so I was going to pick up the car.

    2016 Civic Touring. Less than 16,000 miles and always parked in garage. Evap core went out. Dealer charging over $ 2,000.00 to replace it and of course doesn’t fall under extended warranty for the a/c. Not a happy long time Honda customer! 🤬
