Chrysler announced a recall for more than 4,000 of its model year 2023-2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) over concerns they may catch fire.

The automaker is concerned the recalled Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet PHEVs may contain a loose battery positive cable or high-voltage connector due to missing or incorrectly torqued nuts.

“A loose 12V battery positive cable and/or high voltage connectors may result in a high resistance in the connection to the (integrated dual charging module), which may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off,” the recall states.

Chrysler to inspect recalled vehicles, replace torque nuts, connections as necessary, recall states

Chrysler estimates 1% of a total of 4,129 Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet PHEVs are affected by the issue, according to the recall notice. The automaker is fixing the issue by inspecting the vehicles and replacing or torquing the nuts and connections as necessary.

Owners should not park the vehicles inside buildings or structures or near other vehicles until the inspection is complete. The automaker says it will begin notifying owners on or about Oct. 27, 2023.

Chrysler previously announced a recall for more than 44,000 of its Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer vehicles last month over concerns their airbags can fail to deploy properly
