AT&T lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Plaintiff John Brazinsky filed a lawsuit against AT&T Inc along with current and former executives Randall L. Stephenson, John T. Stankey, Pascal Desroches and John Stephens.
  • Why: Brazinsky claims that AT&T hid the fact that it has cables across the country that are wrapped in toxic lead but did not properly inform workers or the public.
  • Where: The lawsuit was filed in federal court in New Jersey.

Plaintiff John Brazinsky filed a class action lawsuit against AT&T and several former or current executives, claiming the company and leaders were aware but hid that they have more than 2,000 lead-covered cables across the country.

AT&T is aware of the cables but has not disclosed that information to employees or in its annual health and safety statements, the AT&T lawsuit states.

Brazinsky is a stockholder and has proposed a lawsuit including a class of those who acquired AT&T securities between March 1, 2020, and July 26, 2023, claiming the company leaders put those stockholders at risk while endangering employees, everyday citizens and the environment.

“Had Plaintiff and the other members of the Class been aware that the market price of AT&T securities had been artificially and falsely inflated by Defendants’ misleading statements and by the material adverse information which Defendants did not disclose, they would not have purchased AT&T securities at the artificially inflated prices that they did, or at all,” the AT&T lead cables class action says.

Wall Street Journal reports exposed AT&T lead cables reality

The Wall Street Journal wrote a series of stories exposing the risks and impact of the AT&T lead cables, which were cited in the AT&T lawsuit as leading to a drop in the company’s stock price.

AT&T was the subject of a data breach that involved the first names, email addresses, wireless phone numbers and wireless account numbers of up to 9 million customers earlier this year.

The AT&T lawsuit is Brazinsky v. AT&T Inc., et al, Case No. 2:23-cv-04064, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
