samsung refrigeratorA Samsung refrigerator class action lawsuit alleging the ice makers on certain models leak has been ordered to mediation by a federal court judge.

Lead plaintiffs Ronald and Debra Bianchi claimed in their Samsung ice maker class action lawsuit that a defect in Samsung refrigerators with French door external dispensers has led to a number of problems.

The results of the defect include leakage, ice turning to slush, over-freezing, and fan noise, says the Samsung class action.

The original complaint was filed in New Jersey federal court in 2017. In April of this year, U.S. District Court Judge Claire C. Cecchi ordered the parties to mediation. The parties will need to agree upon a mediator, or a third party that will help them resolve the claims in the Samsung refrigerator class action lawsuit.

In the original complaint, the Bianchis say they spent weeks determining which fridge to buy, and settled on a new Samsung 22.5 cu. foot French Door Refrigerator with an external built-in ice maker after conducting extensive research into the more than $2,000 purchase. They say that just after the warranty on their fridge expired, the ice maker began to act up.

According to the Samsung ice maker class action lawsuit, the unit began to leak and make “loud, jarring noises.”

The Bianchis allege in their Samsung ice maker class action lawsuit that thousands of consumers have been subject to the leaky refrigerators. The units at issue include residential refrigerators with a French door external dispenser built-in.

The allegedly affected models include: RF23HCEDB, RF23HCEDT, RFH23HSESB, RF23HTEDB, RF23J9011, RF24FSEDB, RF25HMEDB, RF263BEAE, RF263TEAE, RF26J7500, RF28HDEDB, RF28HDEDT, RF28HFEDB, RF28HFEDT, RF28HFPDB, RF30HDEDT, RF31FMEDB, RF31FMESB, RF323TEDB, RF32FMQDB, RF34H9950, and RF34H9960 in all colors.

According to the complaint, the defective ice makers lead to not only leaks out of the fridge, but inside as well. In addition, consumers complain that the ice bucket becomes stuck, possibly due to a clogged drain from the defect.

As a result, say the plaintiffs, the ice maker becomes unusable in some units.

The ice maker in the affected refrigerators is the TSB 2015 model, alleges the class action lawsuit.

The Samsung ice maker class action lawsuit contends that the appliance maker refuses to fix the problem or replace the defective units. Instead, consumers must conduct “hands-on maintenance and repair,” alleges the complaint.

The plaintiffs say that they and others would not have purchased or paid as much for the affected Samsung refrigerators if they had known about the defective ice maker.

Samsung has fought the class action lawsuit, filing a motion to dismiss prior to the court ordered mediation.

How do you feel about the case entering mediation? Do you think a class action settlement should have been reached to help all consumers?

The lead plaintiffs and proposed Class Members are represented by Mitchell M. Breit and Paul J. Hanly, Jr. of Simmons Hanly Conroy LLC, Jonathan Shub of Kohn Swift & Graf PC, Gregory Coleman, Mark Silvey, Adam Edwards and Lisa White of Greg Coleman Law PC.

The Samsung Refrigerator Class Action Lawsuit is Bianchi, et al. v. Samsung Electronics America Inc., et al., Case No. 2:17-cv-01263, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

I actually have had my Samsung refrigerator that I bought from Best Buy and it to has the ice maker problem. When I called the Samsung service customer number they told me that I had to raise the level of the whole refrigerator. Once I called a handyman out for the 30 time. He just informed me that their is a class action for the ice maker in my unit that I bought. Wish I would have know before buying the system and paying for service calls on a unit they were already aware of.

We have a Samsung model RF4287HARS problems from day one, Luckly we had purchased an extended warranty, kept a warranty on it cost lots just to keep it covered under warranty, everything was replaced icemaker, keypads. drain in the bottom of freezer. Thought that would take care of problems. Everything that was replaced does not last goes out again consciously needs replaced. Samsung is no help; they do not care how much money you have in warranties and still having problems.

Unfortunately, we acquired our junk Samsung RF28HMEDBSR when we bought our home in 2016. Worked great until a few years ago when the ice maker would freeze up. Defrosting it manually was a pain, so we just started buying bagged ice and haven’t used the ice maker or dispenser since. Since April 2023, we’ve had problems with the evaporator in the French door section. First it was a bumping noise and then it was frozen. We’ve replaced the fan and added a thicker insulation seal around the inside of the evaporator cover. All was good for a few weeks, then we noticed water leaking on the front feet of the appliance. We discovered that water was collecting in the area below the flex draw, some of it had frozen into a sheet of ice. I removed what I could without removing the drawer. It apparently had been leaking for a while….long enough for the water to be discolored a slight brown/pink color like what collects in a bathroom cup.

After consulting the internet and watching videos by others who have had the same issues, we chose to replace the silver clip on the bottom of the heating element with a clip that is longer and sits farther down the drain hole to keep it from freezing over, and used a hair dryer to melt any ice in the drain hole. We left the rear cover off and put the drain tube into a bowl so we could ensure that the auto defrost was actually working the way it was supposed to.

We had a few days without issue. Then we noticed water was collecting under the crisper drawers. We removed the evaporator cover AGAIN to check the fan and if the drain hole was frozen. That was all working. I put a large bath towel under the crispers and have to change it twice a day…and it is completely soaked, the right side seems to more water. I have removed the shelves and back panel about at least 1x a week for the past 8 weeks. The last time I chose just to leave them out for now until our leaking water issue is resolved. The next thing
I have removed the shelves and back panel about at least 1x a week for the past 8 weeks. The last time I chose just to leave them out for now until our leaking water issue is resolved. Our next step is to change out the water filter and check that all water lines are hooked up correctly in the filter area between the crisper drawers. The water dispenser still works. Keeping my fingers crossed that this will fix the water leaking.

Please reply if you have had water under the crispers and what remedies you have tried that were successful. Thank you!!

    P. S. We will never buy another Samsung product. EVER.

  10. Brenda Kerstetter says:

I had a couple of appliance repairmen to look at my ice maker freezing up. Finally was told to just keep defrosting as that was all that could be done. My husband got Lymphoma and I did not have the time to keep up with my freezer so finally got a new refrigerator
