A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging WEN hair products caused some users to suffer hair loss, hair damage or scalp irritation.

If you purchased and/or used WEN hair care products, you may be entitled to compensation from the class action settlement.

Hundreds of plaintiffs have filed class action lawsuits against the manufacturers of WEN after they allegedly suffered hair loss and/or scalp injuries after using the hair care products.

One of the first WEN class action lawsuits was filed by plaintiff Amy Friedman of Florida. She says that she purchased a WEN Cleansing Conditioner product and began losing significant amounts of hair within two weeks of using the product.

Friedman says she relied on claims suggesting that “WEN is gentle enough to use every day” and that “WEN isn’t like an ordinary shampoo so you want to use more of it, not less.”

According to the WEN class action lawsuit, the defendants knew that the products suffered from a serious design defect but failed to warn consumers that WEN hair care products could cause significant hair loss.

In July 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration launched an investigation into the WEN hair care products after it received a number of reports from consumers about the products.

In December 2015, the parties began mediation in order to resolve the WEN class action lawsuits.

Defendants Guthy-Renker LLC and WEN by Chaz Dean Inc. deny the allegations but have agreed to a class action settlement in order to avoid the cost and risk of trial. They have agreed to pay more than $26 million to settle the WEN hair care class action lawsuit.

The WEN class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Oct. 28, 2016.

If you would like to opt out of or object to the WEN class action settlement, you must do so no later than Feb. 10, 2017.

I used this and had irritation problems. My scalp itched and had a rash. After a month I called them…they told me I needed to use more of the product each time (pumps) and rinse better. My stylist told me to stop using the product. After another month or so using normal salon purchased shampoo (Biolage) I am fine. This was about a year ago. I am not sure the exact type ..but I believe it was a fall scent (pumpkin something). Having said this…the accessorie products and comb were wonderful and I would still by them if it crossed my mind when purchasing like products. I wish it had worked.?

      ……..buy..not by!!! Oops.

  2. Gloria Jean Sykes says:

I have been a client of Chaz since he was a very young hair artist/stylist working for a Beverly Hills company. The moment WEN was on the shelves, and perhaps long before distribution, Chaz used the product on my hair. My hair, though fine, I had a lot of it, and at all times using WEN and Chaz’s hand-on expertise, my hair has been gorgeous, so much so, when I’d leave his salon and literally men and woman would follow me down the street and ask who my stylist was and what products I used. Being in the TV industry, my appearance is vital to my job, and I have turned on hundreds of people to WEN: none have had any problems and ALL have thanked me. It is sad that such a SMALL hand full of people have filed these complaints. Hair loss and baldness is caused in so many ways, including but not limited to side effects of medications, peroxide used in hair coloring, people who consume more than one glass of alcohol a day, especially those who drink hard liquor, stress, pregnancy, the list is endless including the food you eat. WEN, Chaz, should not be responsible for other people’s behaviors and lifestyles, but I applaud him for not pursuing this what would be a costly and long litigation. Though I wish he went forward, because I know that there would be hundreds if not thousands of woman like myself who would come forward and testify to the few woman who blamed WEN for their hair loss. To wit, everybody should file a complaint who used WEN and take the $25 and in support of Chaz, and our beautiful hair– use that settlement money to buy another bottle of WEN. This is truly how we can show Chaz how much we appreciate him and his products.

Speak for yourself but don’t try to bash the people like myself who actually was affected by this conditioner! Until you go through what I have been through with these bald spots (From WEN) then u can judge but until then? That’s good if it helped you and your friends but for some of us, it didn’t turn out good. Everybody’s different??‍♀️

      1. Mg says:

I agree with you. I’m natural, no chemicals. I would wash my hair and I would get a hand full of hair. I had to go to the doctor and dermatologist.

    2. michelle says:

my son is 18 and his hair is falling out he don’t take medications but yet he has bald spots and thinning and orange and gray hair and facial hair bad itching really?

  3. Christian Apkaw says:

I’m balding on my left temple due to the use of this product.

  4. april cooper says:

I had great hair my whole life. Fine, but a lot of it. My identity was my hair, styling, coloring, babying it always. My mom turned me on to WEN thru QVC and bought my first bottles. I kept using it because I thought it was great for my hair. Within 2 years, my hair started thinning drastically and breaking off at the crown and where i sleep. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on extensions and hair pieces and have been terrified to color my hair.

  5. Demetra Hayes says:

I’ve never had hair issues and had been using Wen for a couple of years then developed bald spots. The Derm Dr said alopecia but didn’t know from what. I stopped using Wen, received monthly injections in my scalp and finally after 6 months of horrible injections my hair is growing back. I will never use WEN again.

  6. Kee says:

The settlement administrator should have a number where a live person gets on the phone and actually answers your questions. I’ve been leaving messages and trying to get in touch with them for the longest. It’s ridiculous! I need to make sure they received my claim!

  7. patricia m finelli says:

it burned my scalp and made my hair fall out to bad i did’t take pictures and report it when it happened. did tell a company rep about it to cancel my shipment

  8. Kelly Johnson says:

Just want to make statement that I have not had irritation to scalp or loss of hair. Hair more manageable and growing like crazy. Lots of body and brings out natural curl. Feel bad if others have had bad experiences. I have tried many of his formulas and most in 32 oz bottles so have used a lot! Will continue as for me it is a real treasure. Just hoping these people have ruled out possible hair diseases and stress. I hear pregnancy can cause hair issues as well. Just really feel bad for the Wen organization as I am certain they meant no harm in creating the products.

    1. Loren says:

I had a beautiful head of hair all my life and since using WEN I have gone bald on the entire crown of my head and on the left side of my head. I have zero health problems and have never had any hair loss until using WEN. So just because it hasn’t affected you doesn’t mean it hasn’t affect Millions of women!!!

  9. Kathy says:

I have been using WEN for 4 yrs; no hair loss. Actually it helped tremendously when I had shingles on my face and head. My hair is growing back in that area. WEN TeaTree is the only thing I use.

  10. alicia brooks says:

at first my hair was soft and now i have permanent bald spots
