LCD screen class action settlement

A $63 million class action settlement has been reached between multiple LCD flat panel manufacturers and Washington state consumers.

The lawsuit accused AU Optronics, Chimei, Chunghwa, Epson, Hitachi, LG, Samsung, Sharp, and Toshiba of conspiring together to fix the prices of LCD flat panel devices.

The Washington State Attorney General claimed that various manufacturers participated in cartel meetings to exchange price information in order to manipulate the cost of LCD devices.

As a result, the state attorney alleged that LCD flat panel prices were artificially increased and maintained therefore forcing customers to pay more than they should have.

Other states pursued LCD manufacturers with similar antitrust class action lawsuits in federal court, but only four states continued their class action lawsuits in state court, including Washington state.
