engine defect class action

Those who owned or leased a variety of 2008 through 2014 model year Volkswagen or Audi vehicles could get up to $6,500 from a Volkswagen timing chain class action settlement.

The Volkswagen timing chain class action settlement resolves allegations that a defect in the timing chain of certain models of vehicles caused tension system failures, resulting in costly repairs and safety concerns.

After initially being hit with a Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit over the alleged defect in 2016, another class action lawsuit alleged that the car maker hid evidence of problems with the chain that could cause it to “jump a tooth” and severely damage the engine.

According to the Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit settlement, those who owned or leased one of nearly 20 models of VW and Audi vehicles may be able to make a claim for repairs they had to make because of the alleged defect.

The VW class action settlement covers repairing or replacing a timing chain or timing chain tensioner, or repair or replacement of an engine damaged due to a timing chain or timing chain tensioner.

Class Members may also be able to claim an extension of their car’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty to cover future repairs.

The deadline to submit a claim in the Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit settlement is Jan. 25, 2019.

Class Members who wish to object or exclude themselves must do so by Oct. 12, 2018. The fairness hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19, 2018.

UPDATE: On Dec. 7, 2018, amid Class Member objections, plaintiffs in a Volkswagen engine defect class action are trying to keep a proposed settlement deal alive. Plaintiffs in the Volkswagen class action emphasized to the court that there were only 43 objections to the proposed settlement.

UPDATE 2: On Dec. 14, 2018, a federal judge has granted final approval of a Volkswagen class action settlement over allegedly defective timing chains.
