The University of La Verne agreed to pay $8.9 million to resolve claims its students didn’t get the value of their spring 2020 tuition payments due to campus closures.

The settlement benefits individuals who were enrolled as traditional undergraduate students at the University of La Verne’s Main/Central Campus during the spring 2020 semester.

Students in the class action lawsuit say they didn’t get the benefit of their spring 2020 semester tuition due to COVID-19 closures at the University of La Verne. These closures allegedly denied them access to campus resources that they paid for through tuition and fees.

The University of La Verne is an undergraduate and graduate university with several campuses in California.

The University of La Verne hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to an $8,895,759 class action settlement to resolve these allegations.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive a cash payment from the settlement based on the amount they paid in tuition for the spring 2020 semester. Exact payments will vary.

La Verne previously increased the available financial aid available for the 2020-2021 school year, providing further relief for this issue.

In addition, class members can benefit from non-cash settlement benefits through continued access to La Verne’s Career Center and Academic Success Center, along with a 10% tuition discount for graduate programs.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Feb. 17, 2023.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for April 10, 2023.

No claim form is required to benefit from the settlement. However, class members may submit an election form by Feb. 17, 2023, to provide updated contact information and/or receive their payments in electronic form.
