UPDATE:

  • On Feb. 13, 2019, a $58 million settlement was reached to resolve class action allegations that All Nippon Airways engaged in a price-fixing scheme on transpacific flights.

A near $50 million Transpacific Airlines class action settlement has been expanded to include four more airlines.

If you purchased a plane ticket between Jan. 1, 2000 and Dec. 1, 2016 that included a flight that started in the United States and flew to Asia or Oceania, you may benefit from the Transpacific Airlines class action settlement.

The Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit alleged that dozens of airlines entered into a price-fixing scheme affecting consumers who wished to fly between the U.S. and Asia or Oceania. Originally, the plaintiffs claimed that the airlines also fixed prices for flights for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

In 2015, eight defendant airlines agreed to pay nearly $40 million to end the Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit, including Air France, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, and Vietnam Airlines.

Recently, Air New Zealand Limited, China Airlines Ltd., EVA Airways Corporation, and Philippine Airlines Inc. have agreed to settle the Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit. In total, they have agreed to pay $49.9 million, with EVA agreeing to pay $21 million and China Airlines paying $19.5 million to end the litigation.

One airline, All Nippon Airways, has not yet agreed to settle the Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit.

The Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit alleged that the airlines conspired to hike airfare, as well as surcharges, on these international flights as a way to artificially inflate the prices as well as their profits.

The additional four airlines that agreed to settle the Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit do not admit any liability under the terms of the settlement.

The deadline for Class Members to opt out or exclude themselves from the settlement is Aug. 30, 2018.

  1. Letter but where is the payments says:

Hope the payout is better than expected and hope soon!
After sending in a lot of years of proof of credit card statements, tickets and trip itinerary, I was approved for 137 flights (there was 17 other flights that were not approved for some reason) Obviously I spent well over 8.50 a ticket so hoping they were able to weed out the false claims and those who submitted proof will receive a nice settlement payout like we deserve

    1. Theresa L. David says:

i received my determination letter for settlement class III. Under qualified ticket count, it has the number 7. I hope we all receive a nice settlement. I am activating my faith that we will. Have you received your determination letter yet? I’m curious as to when payment will be distributed.

      1. LB says:

That’s only about 60 bucks if the tickets are $8.50 each

  2. Pennsylvania says:

I got a letter saying settlement class and qualified ticket count, is this just saying this is the ticket count per class did everyone get the same letter or is this an individual letter ?

    1. Top Class Actions says:

It’s a letter pertaining to your claims and the number of flights you’ve been approved for.

    2. Theresa D says:

i received one with a ticket count of 7 settlement class III

    1. James says:

You would think if there are determination letters all they need to do is print the checks? What else is left to do?

    2. MsLD says:

TCA now that the “determination” letters have been sent, can you let us know when payments will be sent. This has been settled yeas ago. What more do they need to do?

      1. MsLD says:

        How much per ticket?

        1. Top Class Actions says:

Original estimate was $8.50 per ticket. No word on if that’s changed.

          1. bernee says:

said $5 per ticket, but pro rata on a different settlement website. so we may get a few bucks per ticket.

      2. Top Class Actions says:

Usually in settlements of this size, a motion to distribute settlement funds must be filed with the court and approved before checks are mailed. We’re checking the docket daily.

        1. LB says:

Well when and how much longer is that process. It’s been a long time already.

  4. Jose fonseca says:

  5. REALLY? says:

8.50….I hope they are kidding. Millions of dollars, and they are only offering 8.50? The administrators of these lawsuits get paid more than the consumers who are affected by the actions of these companies. Sickening!

  6. D civil servant in SoCal says:

I received my settlement determination letter. It seems rather useless and just away of delaying payment. It did not tell me anything that I did not know already. Only information on the determination is the amount of flights I took. Still no estimate of when we will be paid or the dollar amount to expect.

Any ideas as to whats going on?
