  • On Feb. 13, 2019, a $58 million settlement was reached to resolve class action allegations that All Nippon Airways engaged in a price-fixing scheme on transpacific flights.

A near $50 million Transpacific Airlines class action settlement has been expanded to include four more airlines.

If you purchased a plane ticket between Jan. 1, 2000 and Dec. 1, 2016 that included a flight that started in the United States and flew to Asia or Oceania, you may benefit from the Transpacific Airlines class action settlement.

The Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit alleged that dozens of airlines entered into a price-fixing scheme affecting consumers who wished to fly between the U.S. and Asia or Oceania. Originally, the plaintiffs claimed that the airlines also fixed prices for flights for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

In 2015, eight defendant airlines agreed to pay nearly $40 million to end the Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit, including Air France, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, and Vietnam Airlines.

Recently, Air New Zealand Limited, China Airlines Ltd., EVA Airways Corporation, and Philippine Airlines Inc. have agreed to settle the Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit. In total, they have agreed to pay $49.9 million, with EVA agreeing to pay $21 million and China Airlines paying $19.5 million to end the litigation.

One airline, All Nippon Airways, has not yet agreed to settle the Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit.

The Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit alleged that the airlines conspired to hike airfare, as well as surcharges, on these international flights as a way to artificially inflate the prices as well as their profits.

The additional four airlines that agreed to settle the Transpacific Airline antitrust class action lawsuit do not admit any liability under the terms of the settlement.

The deadline for Class Members to opt out or exclude themselves from the settlement is Aug. 30, 2018.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members include those who purchased flights from Air New Zealand Limited, China Airlines Ltd., EVA Airways Corporation, or Philippine Airlines Inc. from Jan. 1, 2000 and Dec. 1, 2016. The flights must have included a segment that originated in the U.S. and flew to Asia or Oceania.

$8.50 per eligible ticket claimed.

    Plaintiffs filed a Motion for Secondary Distribution of the Remaining Settlement Fund with the Court on August 8, 2022. The Motion and supporting declarations are located on the COURT DOCUMENTS page of this website. No hearing has been scheduled.

    The opposition date is 8/22/2022.
    The reply date is 8/29/2022.

    Additional information about the secondary distribution will be available after the Court issues the Order Granting Plaintiffs’ Motion for Secondary Distribution.

    Just read other comments and we did the same thing. Sent in copies, and the response was to send again. We did again and we still have not gotten anything. We also sent copies to the court of the letter and the emails that they sent to us.

    Reached out to the group with copies of approvals letters and still they reach back to me and advised that could i send them again. I sent again and then they said that they would get back to me. Then, again, i sent more copies and nothing. WE ALL NEED TO GET THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERALS INVOLED IN THIS. We have been had.

    Nothing in Ohio as well. I have contact via email and a letter with copies and will contact for the more assistance that should be able to look in this.

    I going to report them to the state attorney general’s office, I never received any thing.

    Again, my family got the letters as well for approval. Not one check at all for so many flights. Send copies back to them with the approval letters, and no response. Send emails with attachments, and no response. I am not sure if anyone in Ohio got a check.

    Tried to contact and got a recording. Got letters for my family that we got approved. No checks yet and sent in emails and no response with claim numbers and no one has responded to us. Many travels and no checks for my family.

      You have to email them and they will respond. I sent an email and they replied a week later.

    Just curious – did anyone actually take the check to the bank listed on the check – CitiBank – and have them cash it (I prefer to not have it show in my banking – I’m in negotiations with the IRS and they are brutal) – the closest one to me is 5 hours away but may be worth it

    I never saw any place what it was stated what each different airline ticket was going to pay in the settlement when the claim process was going on. Nothing was disclosed until after the claim process had already closed and they were in the distribution phase. Am I right about this?
