Norton by Symantec

Symantec Corp. and Digital River Inc. have agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging they misrepresented some of their products. If you purchased Extended Download Service (EDS) for Norton products or Norton Download Insurance (NDI) between Jan. 23, 2005 and March 10, 2011, you may be eligible to receive a payment from the class action settlement.

The class action lawsuit, which was initially filed in January 2011, alleges that Symantec and Digital River misrepresented that EDS and NDI were necessary if a customer wanted to re-download their software more than 60 days after purchase and that Symantec failed to disclose that customers could re-download their Norton software for free or buy EDS later if needed.

The Norton class action lawsuit alleges violations of consumer protection laws, including the Minnesota Consumer Fraud Act, California’s Unfair Competition Law and California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act, by failing to disclose to Class Members that a variety of free alternative methods to re-download purchased software existed. The defendants have denied the allegations. However, the court certified the class action lawsuit on March 31, 2014.

The parties participated in mediation, resulting in this class action settlement. Although the defendants deny any wrongdoing, they agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the time, costs and risks of further litigation. The Norton download insurance settlement was preliminarily approved on Oct. 8, 2015.

I would like all the time and monies, back that I have wasted repairing peoples computers due to this companies software, its a virus in its self. it eats up memory just to operate, people had to upgrade there memory just because it slowed down the computer like it had a virus. You need to download a tool just to remove it because its so infected in the operating system like a virus. The same can be said about McCrappy too.

  4. Melissa Moreno says:

I should sue for unreasonable burden to file. Fraud for consumers who are eligible to receive their hard earned money back.

If they have contacted me they obviously have all of the information they need. Just send me the check. I do not have every receipt for everything I purchased in 2011.

unlike MOST claim forms you cannot obtain and complete THIS one online. I am not one to mail things in, I always forget. Geez the ONE time I have purchased a bogus product and I cannot fill it out online to receive a reimbursement. pitiful. I have been trying to about 30 mins now.

Having reviewed the postcard, I see as usual it is nearly impossible to make a claim for the always small payment on these class actions. Who has the records needed to make the claim? Meanwhile as usual, the lawyers will get rich as we know is the reason they fleece the corporations!! How could they possibly be entitled to 20,000,000 plus expenses!! This is absurd,
