Sound Generations agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that a 2021 data breach incident compromised sensitive customer information.
The settlement benefits individuals whose personal information was potentially compromised in the Sound Generations data breach reported in December 2021.
According to plaintiffs in the data breach class action lawsuit, Sound Generations could have prevented the data breach with reasonable cybersecurity measures. The company’s failure to prevent the breach stems from negligence, the plaintiffs contend.
Sound Generations, previously known as Senior Services, is a nonprofit that provides accessibility services to older individuals to meet their needs.Â
Sound Generations hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive a cash payment of up to $130 for various economic damages including credit expenses, bank fees, interest, communication expenses and fraudulent charges. Class members can also claim up to two hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour.
Individuals whose Social Security numbers were compromised in the data breach can receive an additional pro rata share of a $100,000 fund.
All class members are eligible for up to two years of free credit monitoring services through IDX. These services include one bureau monitoring, $1 million in insurance, identity restoration assistance and more.
Class members who do not make a claim for economic damages, lost time and credit monitoring can instead receive a cash payment of $25.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is May 29, 2023.
The final approval hearing for the Sound Generations data breach incident settlement is scheduled for July 14, 2023.

Not sure why my name & address was placed on the card mailed to me informing me about this.
I’ve no reason to believe I have ever had any connection to Sound Generations.
And, by the way, I received that card after the deadlines had passed either to exclude myself or to object. Thanks for your, uh, timeliness.
Please delete me from any further contact about this issue.
