Snyder’s-Lance Inc. has agreed to pay $2.7 million to settle a class action lawsuit stemming over allegations that the snack food manufacturer deceptively marketed its pretzel and chip products as “all natural” when they actually contain artificial colors and genetically modified ingredients.
The “all natural” class action lawsuit specifically claimed that the “natural” statements on labels of Snyder’s of Hanover® Pretzels, Snyder’s of Hanover® Chips, Cape Cod® Potato Chips, Eatsmart Naturals® Snacks, Padrino’s® Chips, and Snack Factory Pretzel Crisps® products were false.
Lead plaintiff Todd Barron stated that some of the synthetic ingredients within these Snyder’s snacks include maltodextrin, niacin, reduced iron, dextrose, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin and folic acid.
“The defendant misleads and deceives reasonable consumers, including the named plaintiffs and the other members of the classes by portraying products containing non-natural, genetically modified ingredients and other non-natural artificial and synthetic ingredients as ‘All Natural,’ ‘natural’ and/or ‘naturals,’” the Snyder class action lawsuit stated.
In March 2014, Snyder’s-Lance asked the court to dismiss the class action lawsuit by arguing that the plaintiffs did not suffer injuries other than economic loss.
While Snyder’s-Lance continues to deny all allegations and liability, they agreed to the terms of the settlement to avoid the cost of further litigation.

The on-line form will only submit if I complete it with 9 or less items. If I put 10 items on the list, it kicks it back stating there is a problem with the form. I tried several times with 10 items. I read a comment above and I tried it with 9 items and it finally went through.
I don’t have proof of purchase from my office vending machines and cannot look back over 9 years of receipts to locate the purchases from stores. Convenient stores do not list on their receipts what you buy. This is a POORLY set up claim.
Error in submitting online form is due to error in Captcha. If you type in the numbers you see on the screen, then you receive error code. If you click on listen to have system read the number and then enter those into box, then it works fine and form will submit. This error should be fixed by claims administrator or else the court should be advised of error.
Mine went through with 10. I have bought way more than that during those years, but who keeps their receipts for something like that?
exactly!
i had the same problem with submission until i logged onto a desktop. My initial attempts were from my iphone
OK I just re-did it AGAIN with 9 items & it went through. Their site is wrong. You can only put in 9 without proof. Put in 10 & it wont go through. What a pain in the ass!
do you have to fill in dates of purchase? who can remember back to 2007?
its approx. just put year month an approx date
They know that most people will not remember dates that far back. I know I have bought their products for years.
I just tried and it still comes up with an error message, I tried 3 times, just says there is a problem with the form, yet everything is filled out…
spent 20 min filling the form out and then it said there was a problem with it and I had to go back which erased ALL my info! Dont waste your time!
