Porsche class action settlement

Porsche Cars North America Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that some 2003 to 2006 model year Porsche Cayenne vehicles with V8 engines were equipped with plastic coolant pipes that can prematurely degrade or fracture.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the plastic cooling pipe defect settlement include current and prior owners or lessees of a model year 2003-2006 Porsche Cayenne vehicle with a V8 engine in the United States. New and Porsche approved certified pre-owned (ACPO) vehicles from an authorized Porsche dealership are included as Class Vehicles.

Potential Award

If your Class Vehicle had a coolant pipe repair before Dec. 12, 2013, for which you incurred out-of-pocket expenses for parts and labor costs, you may be eligible to receive partial or complete reimbursement for that repair if you make a valid, timely and approved claim.

If as of Dec. 12, 2013, your Class Vehicle has not had a coolant pipe repair to install genuine Porsche aluminum coolant pipes, you may be eligible to receive a partial or complete payment for replacement of your Class Vehicle’s coolant pipes with genuine Porsche aluminum coolant pipes if you make a valid, timely and approved claim.

If as of Dec. 12, 2013, your Class Vehicle is still equipped with Porsche plastic coolant pipes and, within one year from Dec. 12, 2013, experiences coolant pipe damage, you may be eligible to receive a partial or complete payment for replacement of your Class Vehicle’s Porsche plastic coolant pipes with genuine Porsche aluminum coolant pipes if you promptly contact Porsche Cars North America at 1-800-566-9181 to learn how to obtain an inspection of the vehicle and submit a valid, timely and approved claim.

Proof of Purchase

Class Members must submit (1) a clear and legible copy of the repair orders and/or other service documents that identify the make, model and year of the vehicle, the vehicle identification number (VIN), the odometer reading at the time of the repair, and that sufficiently establish that a coolant pipe repair occurred; (2) proof of ownership or lease of the Class Vehicle at the time of the repair; (3) for ACPO claimants only, proof of purchase of a Class Vehicle with an ACPO limited warranty; and (4) receipts, invoices, and other records of expenses paid out-of-pocket for the coolant pipe repair and repair of collateral damage, if any.

If the documents identified above are unavailable, the Class Member must submit a declaration providing the required information and explaining the circumstances preventing the Class Member from submitting the documentation with their Claim Form. Claims that are not accompanied by supporting documents will be rejected if they cannot be verified.

In re: Porsche Cars North America Inc. Plastic Coolant Tubes Products Liability Litigation, Case No. 2:11-md-02233, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio

Case Summary

The Porsche Cayenne class action lawsuit alleges that Porsche sold vehicles with defective plastic cooling pipes, which have or will prematurely degrade and fracture. The plaintiffs also claim that the plastic cooling pipe defect can cause damage to other components of the vehicles’ engines. Further, the plaintiffs allege that Porsche was aware of this possibility but failed to disclose it to consumers. Porsche denies the allegations but agreed to the class action settlement, which received final approval on March 19, 2014.

  2. Tracy says:

Well, I am still waiting on my check, They did not wait this long for me to buy the cayenne. Does any one know anything?

  3. Ferd says:

Anyone heard anything specific lately as respects when we will receive our payments? Thanks.

  4. Michael Guerrera says:

Just purchased an 06′ S Platinum on 10/15/15. Car checked out fine, had no leaks before my purchase from a Ca.non Porsche dealer. The very next day I noticed it leaking like crazy from the front passenger side (just inside the passenger wheel). Took to my local mechanic that works our other vehicles, he assured me it was that specific coolant leak, and he had heard of it, not working on porsche’s, he told me good luck! What to do now? Will I be able to have PORSCHE own up to the repairs?

  5. John says:

Shouldn’t be driving a $70,000+ dollar car if you cant afford a $2,000 service bill. And yes the Cayenne S was probably around 70k when it was new. Drive a Honda if you are a single parent working 12hr shifts.

  6. Alicia Russell says:

I have a 2006 Porsche, I was recently just aware of the coolant pikes settlement, I took my Cayenne in to the Porsche dealer at 1607 Easton Road, Warrington PA 18976. I was told by the service manager Steve I only qualify to receive $300 towards my coolants parts, my attorney an I read the settlement that I was qualify for more then $300 dollars towards my coolant parts. My coolant pikes went bad, I’m not able to utilize my vehicle due to $2192 that Porsche is charging me for to fix a problem that Porcshe was aware of knewing that it would be a ongoing problem an me being a woman most dealerships get over on women especially when dealerships no most women don’t have a clue on how to fix a vehicle or no anything about a part to a vehicle. Why would Porsche have limitation on a part that have a recall on it knewing the coolant part is going to go bad

  7. Heather says:

Wow- even with the objection this is taking SO long to be reimbursed. Like all here I filed early and even called to verify they had all necessary paperwork. Nothing on the info. end of this has changed at all so the only ones getting any money at this point are all the attorneys! Looking forward to getting paid back a portion of the 35K I had to put into my bought brand new from dealership Cayenne S Lemon..

  8. Scott says:

Mine completely blew out a couple of weeks ago. I’m driving a 2011 cayenne turbo so no doubt they were still putting those crappy plastic pipes in even then. Worst part is it’s very dangerous if it happens when at speed as my whole back end slid out as the coolant hit my back tires. Being charged around $2000. My 3rd Porsche. Why do I keep doing this to myself? This is one bad car company.

    1. Alicia Russell says:

I agree. Porsche is a bad company I no folks in high places that I’m going to let them no don’t invest in a Porsche some vehicles is a bad investment. My coolant pikes gave out on me August 07, 2015. I took my Cayenne S to the Porsche Dealership an I was just told that I have to pay $2192 to get it fix after the same dealership told me months ago that the settlement would only cover $300 towards my coolant pikes. I’ma single parent working 12hr shifts, some people live in this bubble an think people have all this money to pay for a vehicle that suppose to stand behind there brand, If I don’t any assistance with the problem that Porsche was aware of I’m taking it to the MEDIA

  9. Shannon says:

I live in Australia and have an 06 cayenne turbo, the coolant pipes cracked last week and Porsche city in Melbourne have repaired my car at a cost of $5500. Is there any compensation available for Australian Porsche owners?

  10. Christy Niemann says:

I called 800 231-4757 which is the Garden City law group. There was a single objector to the claim settlement who filed an appeal on 4/18/14. Until that appeal is resolved, no one will receive any check (I was told).
