Missouri Milo’s Kitchen Dog Treats Class Action Settlement

A $600,000 class action settlement has been reached over allegations that Milo’s Kitchen Chicken Jerky dog treats sickened pets.

If you purchased Milo’s Kitchen Chicken Jerky and/or Chicken Grillers Home-style dog treats in Missouri between March 1, 2011 and Jan. 21, 2013, you could get up to $100 per household.

Plaintiff Sharel Mawby alleged that the dog treats made her pet dangerously ill in a class action lawsuit lodged against Milo’s Kitchen LLC and its parent company, J.M. Smucker.

According to the Milo’s Kitchen class action lawsuit, Mawby’s dog Honda experienced diarrhea, lethargy, and a swollen belly and also started drinking too much water shortly after eating a few of the treats.

The Milo’s Kitchen Chicken Jerky class action lawsuit alleged that the treats were made of substandard ingredients and contained high levels of antibiotics.

The ingredients included in Milo’s Kitchen dog treats can lead to the development of potentially fatal illnesses in dogs, including renal failure, according to Mawby.

The Missouri Milo’s Kitchen class action lawsuit cites warnings from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration over similar chicken treats in 2007 and 2011. The agency warned consumers that dog treats, like Milo’s, had been associated with a large number of complaints, including some consumers who reported that their pet had died after eating the treats.

According to the Milo’s Kitchen Chicken Jerky class action lawsuit, the makers of the dog treats falsely advertised the product, making consumers believe that they were purchasing a high quality pet food.

Milo’s Kitchen and Smucker agreed to pay $600,000 to end the class action lawsuit. Class Members with proof of purchase can claim up to $100, while Class Members without proof of purchase can claim up to $12.

Class Members who can provide a receipt, loyalty card records, or other proof of purchase can claim a full refund up to $100 for the purchase of Milo’s Kitchen Chicken Jerky or Chicken Grillers Home-style dog treats. Class Members without proof of purchase can claim a refund of between $2 and $9.50 per product for a total of $12 per household.

Those who wish to object to or otherwise exclude themselves from the Missouri Milo’s Kitchen Chicken Jerky class action settlement must do so by April 22, 2019.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members include those who purchased Milo’s Kitchen Chicken Jerky or Chicken Grillers Home-style dog treats in Missouri between March 1, 2011 and Jan. 31, 2013.

Potential Award

Up to $100.

Class Members without proof of purchase can claim up to $12, including $2 per 3.3-ounce bag, $5.50 per 14-ounce bag, $6.50 per 20-ounce bag, $7.50 per 30-ounce bag, and $9.50 per 23-ounce bag.

Class Members with proof of purchase can claim a full refund up to $100.

No proof of purchase required. However, Class Members who can provide proof of purchase such as receipts, loyalty card records or other documentation can claim a full refund up to $100.
