A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging Lenovo (United States) Inc. sold Ultrabook computers with a design defect that impacted the Wi-Fi capability of the computers. If you purchased a Lenovo Ultrabook computer, you could be eligible for benefits from the Lenovo class action settlement.
The Ultrabook class action lawsuit alleged Lenovo knowingly sold defective Ideapad and “U Series” computers that were marketed as “ideal for any and all mobile needs.” The alleged design defect affected the ability of the computers to connect to Wi-Fi networks or attain adequate Wi-Fi reception speeds. The plaintiffs allege Lenovo violated the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, the California Unfair Competition Law and that the company breached express and implied warranties to the purchasers of the Ultrabook computers.
Lenovo denies the allegations but agreed to settle the Ultrabook class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.
Who’s Eligible
You are a Class Member of the Lenovo class action settlement if you purchased either a Lenovo Ideapad model U310 computer or Lenovo Ideapad model U410 computer.
Potential Award
All Class Members who submit a valid Claim Form and who have not previously returned their Lenovo Ideapad for repair of the Wi-Fi capability may return their computer to Lenovo for repair. The warranty period for any Wi-Fi related issue shall be extended or renewed for an additional year.
Alternatively, Class Members who submit a valid Claim Form and do not elect to have the Wi-Fi capability of their Ideapad repaired by Lenovo may select one of the following benefits:
- A cash refund in the amount of $100 paid by Lenovo; or
- A $250 credit certificate toward the purchase of any product listed for sale on www.lenovo.com. The $250 credit certificate is transferable within the claimant’s immediate family and will expire no less than two years after it is issued.
Class Members who previously incurred out-of-pocket expenses associated with the repair of their Ideabook for a persistent Wi-Fi connectivity problem will be reimbursed for 100% of the amount they paid. To receive this benefit, claimants must submit documentation.
Proof of Purchase
Class Members must provide the following documentation to be eligible for benefits from the Lenovo class action settlement:
- Model number of the Lenovo computer
- Serial number of the Lenovo computer
- Evidence of purchase of the Lenovo computer
- Information and documentation evidencing out-of-pocket expenses in connection with the repairs of the Wi-Fi of the Lenovo computer (if applicable)

Inquired on Oct 6 about timing, go the following (useless) response:
The filing deadline in this case was September 11, 2015. The claims received in connection with the settlement will need to be reviewed and evaluated. The final distribution cannot take place until all such claims are processed.
The length of the claims administration process depends greatly on the number of claims received in connection with the case, their complexity, and the length of the cure period for the deficient submissions. Once reviewed, if we require anything further to substantiate your submission, we will contact you through letter.
If you wish to discuss your personal submission, please contact the Claims Administrator at (800) 766-3330.
Please note, the details concerning the settlement benefits (their distribution, availability and application) are not known to us, at this point.
I HAVE PURCHASED SEVERAL OF THE U310 & U410, AND i HAVE FILED A CLAIM FOR EACH. I WANT TO KNOW IF I WILL RECEIVE A $250 CREDIT CERTIFICATE FOR EACH LAPTOP OR WILL IT JUST BE ONE CERTIFICATE SINCE THEY ARE ALL ON ONE CLAIM FORM? I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I DO RECEIVE THE 3 $250 CERTIFICATES CAN THEY BE COMBINED TO PURCHASE A $750 COMPUTER? From what I read they can be combined but I just want to make sure. Also when will settlement benefits be received and how will I receive the certificates by mail or email? thanks

I agree. We have a U510 with EXACTLY the same problem. Do we need perhaps a separate, new class action?
I had a Lenovo product within the last year or two sent in for repairs but can’t recall the model number I think it may have been one of the g series models it had all kinds of problems from hard rive to connection issues and was bought for at least $300 and they wanted close to the same amount to fix it the second time after it had already had a hard rice replaced under warranty but not sure if this lawsuit would cover the g series or not it also had issues with the batteries charging and I basically got no good help from the company
I would really like to see ALL. Lenovo tablets included in this. I got a IdeaPad Tablet K1 and the thing NEVER worked right…it refused to stay connected to the internet pretty much from the moment I got it. I ended up getting so frustrated that I went out and got an Apple iPad. It would be nice to be able to be a part of this lawsuit. This just isn’t right that multiple models don’t work properly.
