A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging Lenovo (United States) Inc. sold Ultrabook computers with a design defect that impacted the Wi-Fi capability of the computers. If you purchased a Lenovo Ultrabook computer, you could be eligible for benefits from the Lenovo class action settlement.
The Ultrabook class action lawsuit alleged Lenovo knowingly sold defective Ideapad and “U Series” computers that were marketed as “ideal for any and all mobile needs.” The alleged design defect affected the ability of the computers to connect to Wi-Fi networks or attain adequate Wi-Fi reception speeds. The plaintiffs allege Lenovo violated the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, the California Unfair Competition Law and that the company breached express and implied warranties to the purchasers of the Ultrabook computers.
Lenovo denies the allegations but agreed to settle the Ultrabook class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.
Who’s Eligible
You are a Class Member of the Lenovo class action settlement if you purchased either a Lenovo Ideapad model U310 computer or Lenovo Ideapad model U410 computer.
Potential Award
All Class Members who submit a valid Claim Form and who have not previously returned their Lenovo Ideapad for repair of the Wi-Fi capability may return their computer to Lenovo for repair. The warranty period for any Wi-Fi related issue shall be extended or renewed for an additional year.
Alternatively, Class Members who submit a valid Claim Form and do not elect to have the Wi-Fi capability of their Ideapad repaired by Lenovo may select one of the following benefits:
- A cash refund in the amount of $100 paid by Lenovo; or
- A $250 credit certificate toward the purchase of any product listed for sale on www.lenovo.com. The $250 credit certificate is transferable within the claimant’s immediate family and will expire no less than two years after it is issued.
Class Members who previously incurred out-of-pocket expenses associated with the repair of their Ideabook for a persistent Wi-Fi connectivity problem will be reimbursed for 100% of the amount they paid. To receive this benefit, claimants must submit documentation.
Proof of Purchase
Class Members must provide the following documentation to be eligible for benefits from the Lenovo class action settlement:
- Model number of the Lenovo computer
- Serial number of the Lenovo computer
- Evidence of purchase of the Lenovo computer
- Information and documentation evidencing out-of-pocket expenses in connection with the repairs of the Wi-Fi of the Lenovo computer (if applicable)

Why does this not include the ideaPad z470 laptop as it has this issue and I got a complete screw job denial when I tried to address this with their service department two weeks after i purchased it. Refused to do anything for me and denied this was their fault.

OK WHUT ES UR NAME SUR? RITE AWAY SUR
Lenovo has been selling defective laptops for years with their wifi. Really sad that this does not cover either model with this same wifi issue that I have bought in the past few years (bought one after another so did not have a chance to figure out they had this issue). This company is pathetic and should be avoided. I suggest taking the cash on this one, you won’t get a working computer out of them.
I have to agree Vanessa, the wifi on my Ideapad Y400 has always been spotty and unreliable, it seems to be a problem with many of their models, not just the ones listed here.
