LeafFilter agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that leaves, twigs, pollen and other buildup can accumulate on its gutter filter system.

The LeafFilter lawsuit settlement benefits customers who appear in LeafFilter’s customer care database with a debris-related final issue code for their service request between Jan. 1, 2016, and June 24, 2022.

LeafFilter offers a gutter system that claims to keep out “all types of debris” with a gap-free filter system that allows water to pass through while trapping pine needles, shingle grit, leaves and more.

According to a class action lawsuit, the LeafFilter system is defective and prevents “substantial amounts of rainwater” from passing through into the gutters. As a result, water can allegedly flow over the top of the gutters and damage homes siding, foundations, landscaping, sidewalks and more.

In addition to causing water buildup, the defect allegedly causes debris to accumulate on top of the gutter filter. Plaintiffs in the case say they had to pay out of pocket for gutter cleaning and even the removal of the LeafFilter system.

LeafFilter hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a class action settlement to resolve these allegations. The total settlement amount hasn’t been disclosed in court documents.

Under the terms of the LeafFilter lawsuit settlement, class members can receive reimbursement for debris removal cleaning in the form of cash payments and/or vouchers. Payment types will vary depending on the type of proof, if any, class members submit with their claim.

Class members who can provide proof they paid to remove debris from their LeafFilter Gutter System multiple times can receive reimbursement for two cleanings at a rate of up to $100 per cleaning, for a maximum payment of up to $200.

Class members who can prove they paid for one LeafFilter Gutter System cleaning can receive reimbursement for the cleaning at a rate of up to $100 per cleaning. These class members can receive two additional vouchers for future LeafFilter Gutter System cleanings.

Class members who certify they experienced debris accumulation in their LeafFilter Gutter System can receive three vouchers for future LeafFilter cleanings.

Class members who can provide proof they paid out of pocket to remove their LeafFilter Gutter System can receive reimbursement of up to $200 for the costs of removal. Class members who seek removal reimbursements must certify they experienced debris accumulation and that this caused them to remove the gutter system.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Nov. 21, 2022.

The final approval hearing for the LeafFilter lawsuit settlement is scheduled for March 14, 2023.

In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 4, 2023.

Our system was installed Feb 2021. We have a protected oak tree in our back yard which is maintained regularly. The salesman saw this tree and still sold the system knowing what problems would occur. They have overflowed every rain creating problems to fascia boards concrete patio and windows. A number of third party contractors have been here, yet to receive a solution. Bottom line there isn’t a solution but to remove them!

I purchased LeafFilter about 2 years ago. The salesman stated that they would use roof ladders. On the day of installment I was woken up by the sound of someone walking on my roof.
It was LeafFilter installers. They stated they didn’t have a tall enough ladder. The first rain we got, water was running out of the gutter elbows and over my roof. Their contract states they will ” align gutters, clean out gutters and seal gutter elbows”. I complained to the Attorney Generals Office and to the financial institution. I was given a full refund. I asked the company to remove their product. They wanted me to sign a waiver, which I didn’t. I had to eventually get new gutters. When the old ones were taken down it was discovered that there was a bird nest in my gutters by the down spout, the filter screens were installed upside-down, they used improper security anchors. It was a total nightmare for me. I had to purchase new gutters. I’m very disappointed in LeafFilter. They did not honor their contractual agreement. Which cost me in the end.

I found out too late about the lawsuit. I have waterfalls now where I did not before and have nails hanging out of the gutters. Warranty ? They want 100.00 jusylt to send someone out to look. Do not buy this.

        Amen same issues.

  3. Charlie Krueger says:

Had leaf filters installed in March of 2022 . The following fall observed water flowing over the filters onto my deck,. drive and front steps after 1 inch snowfall. This made me concerned at the time but decided to wait and see. Winter came and snow clogged the filters and would not allow snowmelt from roof to drain into gutters. This lasted all winter even with heated gutters and early spring with icicles hanging from my gutters dripping on my deck, front steps and in front of garage creating a very slippery and dangerous walkways. The paint on the deck under gutters was destroyed and slip and falls were always a danger. Called Northern customer service. A tech was sent in timely fashion and he inspected and took pictures. He stated “this should not be happening but cannot inspect for proper installation due to accumulation of snow and ice”.
Reported he would return when the ice melted. I called and he returned in late April. No word from him since even after several calls and left messages. Since that time I have made numerous calls to customer service with promises of a return call within 24 hours or by 4 PM the next working day. NO returned calls ever. When customer service rep would check for communication I was told and email was present stating the customer was contacted and ticket was resolved. This occurred three times on three separate calls. Those emails were a LIE. I was never
contacted. Management has refused to contact me to discuss the issues and to remove the Leaf Filters. This business appears to be a fraud
and management fears customer complaints. The warranty states “lifetime money back guarantee against clogs. My filters were were
clogged . This issue has not been resolved. I just want them removed as they caused slip and fall danger and destroyed the paint on the floor of my deck.

  4. Fred says:

At 85 years old I was told my ladder climbing days were over until in a heavy rain and the water came pouring over the top of the gutter . Installed less than 6 months. I was told. By a the company that was not under warranty

  5. Vince Dye says:

Our system is a piece of crap. This is a scam. It doesn’t work and the water is running over and destroying our wood soffets. DON’T buy

  6. Chris Fountain says:

I have also had problems with my Leaf Filter system. I was told I would never have to clean gutters again, that they were clog free. My gutters have been full of leaves, clogged, not doing what they were advertised to do ever since I got them.

When I called to complain, I was told the leaves were coming from my neighbor’s giant oak trees. So then why did they install them? They saw the trees, they didn’t just grow there overnight. They should have told me their system wouldn’t work in my situation. Why would I spend almost $4,000 on them (for only half of my house) and STILL have to hire someone to clean my gutters?

  7. Lori Kwiatkowski says:

We had Leaf Filter installed in 2018. The gutters overflow onto our back concrete patio whenever it rains hard, damaging patio furniture and concrete. I called Leaf Filter and the tech they sent out said it was a known problem, grit from shingles, twigs and leaves build up and we just needed to clean the gutters periodically. We installed Leaf Filter to NOT need gutter cleaning. Please add me to claim.
