LeafFilter agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that leaves, twigs, pollen and other buildup can accumulate on its gutter filter system.

The LeafFilter lawsuit settlement benefits customers who appear in LeafFilter’s customer care database with a debris-related final issue code for their service request between Jan. 1, 2016, and June 24, 2022.

LeafFilter offers a gutter system that claims to keep out “all types of debris” with a gap-free filter system that allows water to pass through while trapping pine needles, shingle grit, leaves and more.

According to a class action lawsuit, the LeafFilter system is defective and prevents “substantial amounts of rainwater” from passing through into the gutters. As a result, water can allegedly flow over the top of the gutters and damage homes siding, foundations, landscaping, sidewalks and more.

In addition to causing water buildup, the defect allegedly causes debris to accumulate on top of the gutter filter. Plaintiffs in the case say they had to pay out of pocket for gutter cleaning and even the removal of the LeafFilter system.

LeafFilter hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a class action settlement to resolve these allegations. The total settlement amount hasn’t been disclosed in court documents.

Under the terms of the LeafFilter lawsuit settlement, class members can receive reimbursement for debris removal cleaning in the form of cash payments and/or vouchers. Payment types will vary depending on the type of proof, if any, class members submit with their claim.

Class members who can provide proof they paid to remove debris from their LeafFilter Gutter System multiple times can receive reimbursement for two cleanings at a rate of up to $100 per cleaning, for a maximum payment of up to $200.

Class members who can prove they paid for one LeafFilter Gutter System cleaning can receive reimbursement for the cleaning at a rate of up to $100 per cleaning. These class members can receive two additional vouchers for future LeafFilter Gutter System cleanings.

Class members who certify they experienced debris accumulation in their LeafFilter Gutter System can receive three vouchers for future LeafFilter cleanings.

Class members who can provide proof they paid out of pocket to remove their LeafFilter Gutter System can receive reimbursement of up to $200 for the costs of removal. Class members who seek removal reimbursements must certify they experienced debris accumulation and that this caused them to remove the gutter system.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Nov. 21, 2022.

The final approval hearing for the LeafFilter lawsuit settlement is scheduled for March 14, 2023.

In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 4, 2023.

I hired a contractor to install leaf filters on my gutters. Shortly after the installation we had a thunderstorm hit. Water overflowed all along the gutters and not from the downspouts. This water entered into my garage. I called the owner of the contractor. He came out while it was still raining. Shortly after the installer came back out. He blamed the downspouts were clogged. We cleaned out the downspouts and the installer did more work. We had no other thunderstorms. In the winter it snowed. Large icicles were forming along the front and rear portions of the house. We took pictures of the icicles and sent them to the installer. He stated he would come out. He was a no show. We called several times with no return phone calls. We went to the Home Show and the installer had a booth. I spoke with the owner he stated when or if icicles formed again to contact him. He would come out and see what was needed to correct the problem. On three occasions we took photos sent them to him and have made calls to him. No responses have been made for the past two years

So there’s no way that you hired leaf filter and then hired a contractor to install them that is not how their process works. As a matter of fact we cannot even sell this to you if you’re telling us you’re not going to let us install it. Due to the fact that it’s not under warranty if we would allow someone else to do it so therefore it never can be given to you to have someone else install it.
I worked for them for years they have everything in house the sales people the managers run the crews, and the cruews do all the installation!
I have no idea who you hired But do not use Leaffilter’s name because that is completely incorrect! Their nationwide so you’re never going to see the owner at a booth in some local home show !!!!!!!
hahaha it just sounds ridiculous that you’re even saying this ….

I bought the leaf filter system in 2021. I live in a rural area and gave several large pines near my house. I had a metal roof put on my house earlier in 2021. That being said one could clearly see both of those things. I had them install a larger gutter on the back. I paid $4500 at the time. It didn’t work, it collected debri and ran over the gutters, front and back. Then they came out and put a ” better” system on. Didn’t work on the front at all, back with larger gutter about 50%. So then they came out and said I need oversized gutters on the front as well. Add $1000. Now I am up to $5500. Then they said well your roof is metal, the pitch is steep, you don’t have snow guards on the roof. ( I do not to prevent the pine needles building up on it.) All of these things were present upon purchase and three different installations. Save yourselves DoNot Fall for their BS. They don’t work.

I just had to replace AC/Heat pump compressor R/T water overflow from Leaf filter gutter which pours water directly on outside unit instead of draining into downspout. The entire installation of the 2018 system has ruined all of my decks with huge amount of runoff directly onto area that I never had a problem with before. Please add me.

In November 2022, the Leaf Filter salesman arrived at my home and gave his sales pitch, saying that he represented an award winning, reputable company highly rated by the BBB and Angie’s List. He indicated that our gutters were in good condition and the job would take 6 hours to install. Two days later, an unmarked pickup truck pulled into my driveway. The crew that installed the product were obviously subcontracted by the company. The contractors were here 2 1/2 hours tops. They seemed to be in a hurry to leave and handed me a pen and indicated they were done. Nothing was checked off on the list and when asked the contractor said, ” My English is not so good.” They left in such a hurry, I had to chase them down to give them the caulk gun they left on the railing of my back deck. Immediately after their hasty departure, I walked around the house to see the quality job I was promised by the Leaf Filter salesman, only to be greeted by dozens of self tapping screws, globs of silicone caulk, gutter brackets, pieces of my shingles ( the roof was replaced in 2016) grit from the shingles on the front and back porches, the sidewalk and driveway. I also found a couple of large nails and pieces of mesh and plastic from their product. I called the salesman and then customer service . The agent apologized and said that my property should have been left in the same condition in which the contractors found it. He assured me that the local office in my area would call me that same day. They did not. When I had not had a call by the night of the next day, my son called customer service on the third day to terminate the contract and that they come out and remove their product. Customer service apologized for the inconvenience and mess left behind by the contractors. The next day, my son was contacted by their field office in our area and was informed that the only thing they were willing to do was send out a supervisor to inspect the job site, and were not willing to remove the product even though it had been requested several times within the allotted time specified and agreed to in the signed contract. Their local supervisor kept reiterating they had a signed contract with the homeowner and we had no grounds to want this product removed from the home. Needless to say the over $6,000 charge was vastly overpriced for the quality of work I received.

    1. Matthew Henderson says:

We had our system installed six days ago, and no rain yet. The installation process you described sounds exactly the same as what we experienced. They could barely communicate in English, and were in a hurry to leave. Their blower wouldn’t start, so they had to borrow a broom. It still wasn’t cleaned very well. Looking at some of elbows, they don’t line up and there are gaps, and sloppy caulk in other areas.

  7. Jeri Richardson says:

What a scam. Nothing can get in the gutter, not even water.. They can clean off screen today and tomorrow the rain will waterfall right over the rain gutter LeafFilter screen. Having them removed. Scammed me for $$4,537. I am contacting the attorney general of NC to try and stop them. They are still advertising the same lies and need to be stopped. 3 free cleanings as a settlement while the class action attorneys get $1,775,000. Some representation. And I was NEVER sent a notice of proposed settlement.

  8. Linda Cristina Gonzalez says:
