kia class action lawsuit

A settlement has been proposed in a class action lawsuit over allegations certain Kia Sorento vehicles were equipped with a defective crankshaft bolt that could break in some conditions.

If you owned or leased a model year 2003-2006 Kia Sorento with a 3.5-liter engine, you may be entitled to benefits from this Kia class action settlement.

Plaintiff Yvonne Robinson and several other plaintiffs filed the Kia class action lawsuit in 2013, alleging certain 2003-2006 model year Kia Sorento vehicles with 3.5-liter engines have a crankshaft pulley bolt defect that can result in the bolt breaking.

When the crankshaft pulley bolt breaks, it can damage other engine components, the Kia Sorento class action lawsuit alleges. The damaged engine components can reportedly cause significant issues, including the loss of steering control and possible engine failure that can increase the risk of an accident. The plaintiffs assert Kia knew about the Sorento engine defect for years but failed to disclose the problem to consumers.

Kia denies the allegations but the vehicle manufacturer has agreed to settle the Kia Sorento class action lawsuit to avoid the cost and burden of ongoing litigation. The Kia crankshaft bolt defect settlement was preliminarily approved on Nov. 2, 2016.

Class Members who wish to exclude themselves from or object to the Kia Sorento settlement must do so no later than April 3, 2017.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Kia Sorento settlement include: “All persons in the United States who currently own or lease or previously owned or leased a Class Vehicle in the United States.”

Under the terms of the Kia class action settlement, Class Vehicles include model year 2003-2006 Kia Sorento vehicles with a 3.5-liter engine.

Potential Award

Up to $4,900.

The Kia Sorento class action settlement provides reimbursement for certain out-of-pocket expenses for repairs related to the crankshaft pulley bolt failure.

The amount each Class Member is eligible to receive depends on several factors, including whether they are an original purchaser and still own the Class vehicle; they are an original purchaser of the Class vehicle but no longer own the vehicle; whether they purchased a used Class vehicle; and when the crankshaft pulley failure occurred.

Proof of Purchase

Class Members should submit documentation that shows they paid for parts, labor and/or towing related to a crankshaft pulley bolt failure.

We are suppose to get information about claims court ordered by September 16, and payments before October 16. The lawyers drag it out so they get paid more, which we deserve to get!

    Thank you for your email.

We do not have a time estimate for distribution of payments, if applicable, at this time. Please be patient.

I also filed with all the paperwork the original purchase of the car documentation the thousands of dollars that it cost to have this fixed and same thing happened to me I was driving and I also have three little girls the entire car stopped the steering completely went and my car stopped on the on ramp going onto an interstate during rush hour I was called names yelled that beeped at humiliated and I had to call the police ! I had no money to get my car fixed for almost a year and I had just bought that car a year prior! I couldn’t afford the bills so I had to let it sit in my driveway for about nine months and in order to be able to drive to work I had to finance another used really crappy car and I was paying a total of 2 car payments now…and yes I had to finance a cheap piece of crap because I didn’t even have money to buy a used car off of craigslist!!! The bolt had to be drilled out once that goes everything stops in the car!!! I filed before the deadline and I still haven’t received a word or a check I hope I get it soon!! I lost my job and I could use the money!!!

  6. Dan Harris says:

  7. Tired says:

First of all to all the internet trolls starting trouble!! Let me just say, I have a 2005 Kia Sorento and you all must be BLESSED enough NOT to own a Kia because those of us who do have been confused, put into situations where we literally could have gotten hurt or hurt someone else. Understand, when your power steering goes in the middle of driving and you are trying to pull over from the highway!!!…..I really shouldn’t have to continue the thought…..This is an ongoing issue for many Kia owners it’s gotten so bad there’s a YouTube video on how to fix it, but beware because if you don’t know what you’re doing you can kill your whole family.

  8. Tom Horton says:

Typical neocon spouting off where he has no business.

  9. dwids says:

Good Luck! This class action will probably turn out to be just like the screw job Ford Class action lawsuit for spark plugs and the Class action lawsuit for the Debeers diamonds . Consumer gets nothing and the lawyers get the big buck profits. Good Luck KIA owners…
